10 Heads High is loosely based on our awesome 2011 Prototype beer Hops Kill Nazis.

This is an uncompromising 7.7% Imperial Red Ale loaded high with American Hops.

Think of this as an Imperial India Rd Ale, or a super-charged version of 5am Saint.

Either way this is a seriously good beer!

330ml bottle from Brewdog online store. Dark red amber colour, foamy off-white head and aroma of malt caramel, mango, citrus grapefruit, pine hop resin. Sweet malt caramel flavour, fruity, followed by grapefruit & pine bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry spicy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, courtesy of rosenbergh, 20130713) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had hops and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, pine, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Afteraste was sweet and bitter. Way too sweet.

Brewdog Shoreditch. Almost clear deep amber beer. Tiny cream coloured head. Palate is crisp and semi dry. Light malt, trace of toffee. Minerals. Bitter grapefruit hops. Touch of red berry fruits, well buried. A little malt cream. Tiny bit of hop skunk. Minerally crisp finish. Comes together quite well.

Aroma: Caramel, pine, lightly roasted malt and mango.

Appearance: Hazy amber body with a large beige head. Very light carbonation. Nice lacing.

Taste: Pine, chocolate and tea. Slightly medicinal. Very bitter.

Palate: Thin body with an oily texture. Flat carbonation.

Overall: Very bitter and hoppy for an Amber Ale. It’s decent enough, but severely lacking in depth and body. My bottle was 7.8% ABV.

Bottle split with JF at his gaff - the 60+ insect bites tasting, thanks to he, 09/06/13. Almost clear amber with reddish hues and a dirty beige head. Nose is malt forward, caramel, bitter fruits, biscuit. Taste comprises a boozey hit, caramel malt, hops, pine, biscuit, bitter grapefruit and orange. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, booze evident in a dryish finish. Ok stuff but the alcohol is a little harsh and could have been better integrated.

On tap at BrewDog Camden. Clear deep red colour thin beige. Some american hop on aroma. A bit thin in the mouth. Biggish hop on end but not huge bitterness. Had high hopes for this but its a little light. Decent aroma but not keen on the finish. Bit of tea. This has to stand against the great american reds like Laurelwood Organic Red and its just not quite there. Just lacking depth in the mouth. Adding flavour doesnt mean adding depth.

Keg at BrewDog Shoreditch. It pours deep red-amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is toffee, berry, fresh zesty citrus, earth. The taste is upfront bitterness and pine, grapefruit, soap, tart berry, earth, light spice, resin, toffee and some alcohol with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty tasty, but I prefer the Nazi-killing hops version. Perhaps not as readily consumable as the aforementioned.
