Innovation Passion and Knowledge in all we do - and to have some fun along the way. The Thornbridge story began back in 2005 when the founders Jim Harrison and Simon Webster recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. Soon demand outstripped supply and the need for a new Brewery became clear. In 2009 a brand new state of the art brewery was built at Riverside, Bakewell to meet with demand and allow Thornbridge to develop their range of beers.
Brewing still takes place today on the original kit at Thornbridge Hall, which allows us to experiment with new brews, create bespoke Hall brews, collaborations and assist the main brewery in Bakewell.

500ml bottle. Pours light golden with a large white head. Aroma is slightly piney hops and some orange. Piney to start, with an orange and bitter finish. Good effort.

Bottle from PIzza Port Bottle Shop. Pours a pale gold with a small white head. Pleasant fruit and citrus aroma. Floral. Near perfumey. Medium body with foamy carbonation. It is very fruity and florally perfumey. It suggests incense. And it’s quite bitter. Extremely different. Extremely tasty.

Dark amber with red highlights. Shining, naked surface. Malt-fruity aroma. Succulent citrus fruits together with caramel malts followed by dark, bitter fruits towards the ending. Dry on the swallow. Fine partner to the Angus steak. Half pint, cask at The Cask Pub and Kitchen in Pimlico, 15.07.2010.

Half pint, cask. Bright golden-amber body. Low, filmy layer. Dry hopped aroma. Sweet malts and fruity hops in flavour followed by a spicy, dry bitter end. Amazing flavour for a low alcohol beer. Well handpulled and served at The Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. Refreshing after the long drive from Leeds, 15.07.2010.

500ml bottle from Beer Ritz, bb.17.10.2010. Slightly unclear, golden body topped by a white layer. Fragile lacing to the glassware. Aroma of lightly spiced hoppy fruits. Sappy, semi-sweet citrus fruits in flavour. Yeasty hints behind. Smooth dry bitter ending. Foamy mouth feel. Medium to full bodied. A pleasure to drink (flat at Bodington Hall, University of Leeds, 14.07.2010).

Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. A hazy golden coloured pour with a medium white head. Sweet, fruity, hoppy aroma. This is bloody fantastic and it is English! Tastes of mango, melon, orange, pleasantly sweet, juicy malt, hoppy, citrus, honey, pine. Utterly delicious and a beautifully balanced IPA. This reminded me of Three Floyds Dreadnaught, clearly an American inspired DIPA. I don’t need to keep crossing the Atlantic with suitcases full of beer, I can simply head north to Bakewell. Probably my favourite English beer and so damn easy to drink.

Cask, gravity at Merton Beer Festival, 17-07-10 early on Saturday morning Pours almost black with light brown head. Wonderful coffee aroma with swirls of creamy vanilla to take the edge of that bitter roastiness, there is also some good quality dark chocolate on the nose here. Very thick in the mouth, but smooth. Its like a great big alcoholic cappucino at first sip, substantial in the mouth, creamy, some chocolate lasting bitter and roastiness, wonderful stuff. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 4.0

Cask handpull at Cask, Pub & Kitchen, Pimlico. I’ve been looking for this for years, finally got it. Just a touch of diacetyl on aroma. Gold, slight hze, thick beige head. But rest of beer is a solid session bitter, full in mouth, some biscuit, like digestives, some dryess on end. Decent session bitter in great condition

5th March 2010. Pre ZBF. End of evening rating! Opaque black beer. Slightly smoky whisky dominates a little lactose sweet malt. Finishes dry.

5th March 2010. Pre ZBF. Opaque black beer, no head. Almost zero carbonation. Rich chocolate malt. Just a little whisky coming through in the finish which is also quite minerally. Hops present a little in the aftertaste.
