About
Note that the Thornbridge Hall series (largely one off and specials circa 2010-15) deliberately carry the Thornbridge name in their title.

Innovation Passion and Knowledge in all we do - and to have some fun along the way. The Thornbridge story began back in 2005 when the founders Jim Harrison and Simon Webster recruited two young brewers to brew on a second hand 10-barrel kit in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall. Soon demand outstripped supply and the need for a new Brewery became clear. In 2009 a brand new state of the art brewery was built at Riverside, Bakewell to meet with demand and allow Thornbridge to develop their range of beers.

Brewing still takes place today on the original kit at Thornbridge Hall, which allows us to experiment with new brews, create bespoke Hall brews, collaborations and assist the main brewery in Bakewell.

Bottle purchased from Duff’s beer website. Tasted at Fin and Craigs pre Cropredy Festival mini tasting at Merton, Oxon 12-08-09 Pours dark brown without much head. The taste is a touch tangy and not as smooth as expected, foamy in mouth with a little sting from the whisky. Touch of fruitiness and some sweetness, some iced Latte amongst the roasty and bitterness, very pleasant. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Cask@The White Horse, Parsons Green, London. Quite much black colour with small longlasting beigeish brown head. Aroma is mildly roasted malts, some smoked wet wood as well as quite much liquorice. Flavour is quite much the same. A pleasantly balanced stout.

Bottle purchased from Duff’s beer website. Tasted at Fin and Craigs pre Cropredy Festival mini tasting at Merton, Oxon 12-08-09 Pours dark brown, peeling away to a lighter brown at the edges with a film of beige across the top. Craig noted a blackcurrant aroma which was definately there otherwise the aroma was a bit subdued. Taste was cocoa powder, sasprilla and actually a goodly dose of bitter bournville chocolate. The whisky is there but its plays more of a supporting role. Touch of warmth from the alcohol, bit of brine, nice stuff. A6 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.7

Bottle purchased from Duff’s beer website. Tasted at Fin and Craigs pre Cropredy Festival mini tasting at Merton, Oxon 12-08-09 Pours very dark brown, peeling away to lighter brown at edges and with some beige bubblyness going on at the rim. Aroma is as I expected germolene and smokiness though not as bad as I anticipated. Taste is better than I expected and the medicinal annoyances that I normally have to put up with are not so big a factor fortunately, I’m not usually a fan of the Islay aged stuff but this isn’t bad at all. Surprisingly good flavours, soft creamy some latte and there is a warmth from the alcohol yes the germolene shows but its not too intrusive or to the detriment of this beer in the flavour department. Cask@The White Horse. Opaque black, small steady beige head. Sweet licorice in the nose, also a bit fruity. Licorice, roasted malts, some tobacco and herbs in the flavor. Very interesting porter. Lingering herbal, toasted flavors in the aftertaste.
