This was a 2009 750ml bottle I have had in the cellar for the past four years. Pours a slightly watery, caramel amber with some swirling white head. Nose has some dirt, brown malt, prune, a little dried citrus peel, a little cream soda, cardboard. Flavor sort of jumps the shark, malty but not too sweet, prune, very dried raisin, dirt, cardboard, bath water. Dirty finish. I think this is probably 2 years past it’s prime.

4 oz sample at Iron Hill Maple Shade, New Jersey. The pour is a hazed golden copper with a light tan head. The aroma is dark fruit and Belgian candi / brown sugar. The taste is the fruit and Belgian yeast, mixed with a nice lightly roasty malt flavor. The palate is medium bodied, bright active carbonation, the Belgian yeast, plum, raisin and a hint of booze in the finish. Nice Dubbel, the roast gave it a unique character. This and the Black Tie were the class of the session.

4 oz sample at Iron Hill Maple Shade, New Jersey. The pour is clear golden with a small white head. The aroma is cracker and crystal malt, touch of dry floral hops. The taste is the cracker toasty malt, with crystal iced tea flavors. The floral aspect gives some bitterness to the finish. The palate is light to medium bodied, fine carbonation, and a mineral iced tea finish. Easy drinking, solid ESB.

4 oz sample at Iron Hill Maple Shade, New Jersey. The pour is an amber copper with a loose off white head. The aroma is fruity Belgian yeast, along with banana and a bit of citrus. The taste is initially the Belgian yeast fruit banana, then turns to pine and orange citrus hop bitterness. The palate is medium to light bodied, softer carbonation, and a dry yeasty finish. A bit muddled, though still tasty.

Cask at Iron Hill Newark, 5.40%. This was has a decent roasted coffee nose, but the flavor is pure Starbucks, overwhelming the beer characteristics.
