About
We started brewing in Burton-Upon-Trent in 1834. Then in 1898 we got itchy feet. So we moved down the road to the Albion brewery. We still like it so we’ve not moved again since.

We came to Burton for the water. Well, for the rocks the town was built on to be precise. The water trickles down through a thick layer of gypsum before we bring it back up again through our well. That’s what gives our beers the depth of flavour, character and crisp refreshing bitterness that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

Nut brown. I found it too sweet and very bland, but then I've never liked any of Marston's products.

Dark brown, malty and balanced. Very good for being only 2.8%! ............

Orange coloured. Sweet, notes of plastic. Harsh bitterness. As always I'm disappointed in Marston's products.

Too low hop rate for being an India Pale Ale. Sweet and rather bland. Rather industrial and not very interesting ale.

Amber coloured. Sweet and fruity. Hint of sulphur and plastic. No, I'll never be a fan of Marston's.

Black, with light brown head. Light body, hint of acidity. Not as complex as I remembered - now it tastes like a Guinness knockoff (not a good thing, really, since we already have Guinness). Sweetish by default, as the hops are nowhere to be found. Touch of dryness in the finish comes from the roasted barley. Maybe this is better for a different time of year, but when the snow's falling (like right now), it just doesn't seem like the kind of full-bodied stout I like. Interesting that the label reads 'bottle-conditioned', but there is nothing even resembling sediment on the bottom of the bottle.

Firm maltiness. Not as great a showpiece as I would have like to see, but not bad either.

Re-rate. I originally had this in London, the re-rate is from the bottle in Hong Kong. Got it at CitySuper in Tsim Sha Tsui. Medium chestnut brown colour. The aroma has some brown sugar notes, some darker sugars, some grains. The palate is predictably watery, but has some malt complexity, in the form of light nuts and dark sugar nuance. Faint roast. It’s not a bad beer, especially for its size. It has a good mild character.
