(Bottle, 0.33 - BB 2014.05.05, thanks baggio, 20141122) The beer poured black. Its head was small and almost white. Aroma had smoke, molasses and hint of burnt malts. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were chocolate, sweetness, burnt malts and bitterness. Afteraste had chocolate, burnt malts and bitterness. A rather nice stout with chocolate character.

330ml bottle

Pours pitch black with a bubbly head. Aroma of berries, light roastiness, some herbal earthiness and coffee. Taste is sweetish, lightly roasty with notes of berries, cocoa and herbal earthiness. Finish is smooth and slightly roasty with notes of cocoa. Decent.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Ginger and honey nose, light orange, bit of bready malts. Pale orange-gold color, low head, cloudy. Sharp ginger flavor, honey, citrus. A bit of a burn, though not overpowering. Mostly ginger flavor though. Prickly carbo goes well with prickly ginger. Interesting, though not quite beery enough for me.

On tap at Bungalow’s 2nd Anniversary IPA Event. it is made with Northern Brewer & Cascade. A cloudy light gold pour with a filmy eggshell white. It has a mild grassy citrus hop bouquet. A very bitter grassy earthy taste that is too bitter & unbalanced for me.

On tap at Bungalow as Crimson Lager which is what it was listed as at the GJBF maybe add that as an alternate? 5.5%, part of the Miyazaki no Mori series along with hyuganatsu & kinkan. This one is made with murasaki imo(sweet potato). It pours a luscious reddish purple, somewhat kool-aidesque. A sweet earthy fruity aroma. The taste is rough, artificial, sweet grape skins, chalky, a bit of a red wine type of tannic bitterness in the finish. Possibly also a bit of cardboard in the flavor as well. Not terrible per se but sub-par for sure.

On tap at the GJBF in Osaka 2014. A light gold with a thin filmy head. Bready but slightly toe jam aroma not too appetizing. Medium bodied with a decent mouthfeel. The taste is of a bready clean lightly hoppy lager, not bad. Just the aroma doesn’t do it for me.

Tap at Devil’s Craft, Tokyo. Golden color, small white head. Citrusy, orange peel aroma. Light-bodied. Citrus, lime peels, honeyish maltyness in the flavor. Simple and refreshing.

Tap at Maricero. Pastel yellow, cloudy, with a fine, thin head. Lemon-orange citrus nose, bread, biscuit, yeast. Light and crisp. Lovely flavor of light citrus nicely balancing a bready but light lager. Citrus is always there but does not overwhelm and is never sweet. Tart and dry. Fruity and crisp. Wonderful fruit lager.
