Pours clear with great and longlasting head. At first intense aroma of citrus and white fruits, after a short while some aroma of grains and notes of alcohol. In the first few sips alcohol was not discerneble which is a good sign for 10 abv, but on the other hand malts are not sweet, the beer is pretty dry as for 24 plato, malts are not so sweet, which means there is nothing that can counterblance the weight of alcohol. Bitterness is quiet good and balanced, some aftertaste of burnt popcorn (although equinox was not sued but maybe from mix of other hops). Luckily there is very little alcohol in aftertaste, dominant are bitterness and citrus, white fruity, with a hint of piney hops. However durgin the drinking the bitterness can be perceived as produced partially by alcohol which means that it could have been hidden better or fermented to less than 10,5%. I was expecting that this will be a Triple IPA instead of Barley Wine (and actually I love Triple IPA’s) but this is rather a Westo Coast Triple IPA - extremely dry ;) Personally I prefer Triple IPA’s to be a bit more malty (not even mantioning the level of maltinness required for the label "Barley wine"). Still it is a very good beer.
