Description
Commenced Brewing 2004 at Mimram Rd, Hertford as Red Squirrel Brewery. Moved in 2011 to Berkampstead Rd, Potton End after merging with a local Wine Producer. Rebranded to Mad Squirrel in February/March 2017 with some core range beers being renamed and others simply changing name from Red to Mad.

A Forward thinking, contemporary brewery based just outside of London, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. We have continually grown and evolved, often in unexpected ways. Always with a boundless enthusiasm for quality, an inquisitive approach to flavour and a restless desire to better ourselves.

440ml can from Tesco Extra in Chesterfield - cloudy gold body with no head. Strong fruity hops, lots of sweet citrus and tropical fruit in the taste, good bittersweet finish.

440ml can from Squirrel Amersham. Poured a slightly hazy yellow golden colour with a big, short-lived, fizzy white head. The aroma is light citrus. The flavour is light bitter, with a light, somewhat watery, crisp, fresh, light herbal, light lemon citrus, light hop bitter palate. Light bodied with lively carbonation.

Hazed orange topped with a white cap that retains.
Nose is orange zest, grass, melon, straw.
Taste comprises citric tinged straw, grass, melon, orange zest.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close spiked with juicy come grassy hop bitterness.
Okay IPA.

Keg at PoW Beer Fest. Slightly opaque gold. Thin foamy white head. Aroma has light fruit and damp malts. Flavourwise it has wateryntinned fruit and a hint of citrus. Light. Thin. Soft carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Bland as.

Keg at St Albans Beer & Cider Festival, St Albans, Herts. A murky golden orange/yellow coloured pour with a huge white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, orange, peach, tropical fruit aroma & taste. Bitter/sweet, decent enough but it's Mad Squirrel who rarely produce wow beers.

Bottle taster at the St Albans beer festival 2025. A dark black brown coloured pour with a fine tan head. Aroma is meaty earthy roast, bourbon, vanilla,, dried fruits, soy, oily. Flavour is composed of thick chewy roasted malts, Warming bourbon, light tangy white grape, woody roast, dried fruit,. Lingering soy and meaty roast. Liquorice. Palate is semi sweet, chewy, tangy, mellow carbonation. Good but unrefined and rough round the edges. Warming alcohol in the finish.

Nose is mellow citric zest, Sabro nip, grass, melon.
Taste comprises pineapple, lime, citric tinged straw, light breads.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close splashed with mellow Sabro laden hop bitterness.
Decent enough cask pale.

Pale golden yellow topped with a white cap that escapes to the edge over time.
Nose is grass, melon, stone fruit, lychee.
Taste comprises tangerine, melon, stone fruit, dank spike, light pine resin.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close spliced with juicy NZ fuelled hops.
Solid cask pale.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 24th September 2025. Pale gold with shallow foam affording full lacing. Citrus fruits and earthy pungencies in aroma. Fruity citrus in-mouth with a grassy kick. Finish is a tad one-dimensional in citrus. Light bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.
