Description
Staropramen Brewery's history begins in 1869 when a corporation was formed on September 6, 1869, The brewery building was completed and beer first brewed in 1871 and the brand name Staropramen, literally meaning “old spring”, was registered in 1911.

Extensive modernization took place from 1933 to 1937 lead by masterbrewer Josef Paspa. The fermentation rooms with cooling vessels and large wooden barrels were replaced with modern steel tanks. In 1933, thanks to its volume of 800,000 hl of produced beer, the brewery became the biggest brewery in Czechoslovakia.

With socialism after the Second World War Staropramen was nationalised. After socialism ended in 1989, the brewery, along with the Braník and Měšťan breweries, became in 1992 part of the Prague Breweries group (Pražské Pivovary), which by 1996 came under control of the Bass company. Bass brought Ostravar into the group in 1997, then in 2000 sold its brewing operations to Interbrew, later AB InBev. In April 2012, Staropramen was bought by Molson Coors

Brewed in Burton-on-Trent, UK. Bottle at home while watching England lose to Italy for the first time. Decent lager but couldn't really appreciate it as I was distraught because of the abject England performance.

It is a correct pils on the czesch way, but nothing extraordinary. The taste is a little watery, malty, maybe some corn and hop, refreshing, drinking it at some opportunities in some pubs in Switzerland.

Keg at Hilton Hotel, Strathclyde - perfect draft pour with a crystal clear golden body with a firm white head. After that, all a bit lager by numbers. Strained corn juice, tinny aftertaste.

Tap from tank at U Klokone. Med-thin bod, med-high carbo, a bit sharp. Med bitter, med-light sweet. Med caramelly, oxidation. Little else in flavour, light grassy hopping. Kinda drinkable, but preferrably very quickly and thinking about something else. Meh.

Can from dunno where, it was on my windowsill ever since temps dropped, so for ages. Murky orange body, almost no head. Huge, ginormous stone fruit aroma, both apricot AND peach. Lean, dry taste, low low fruity tartness keeping the huge stone fruit profile in check, just something vaguely weird, but tiny in the finish and aftertaste, but I'd drink more of these without any issues! Excellent beverage. Probably better than any full strength I've had from Staropramen in years!
