Description
Staropramen Brewery's history begins in 1869 when a corporation was formed on September 6, 1869, The brewery building was completed and beer first brewed in 1871 and the brand name Staropramen, literally meaning “old spring”, was registered in 1911.

Extensive modernization took place from 1933 to 1937 lead by masterbrewer Josef Paspa. The fermentation rooms with cooling vessels and large wooden barrels were replaced with modern steel tanks. In 1933, thanks to its volume of 800,000 hl of produced beer, the brewery became the biggest brewery in Czechoslovakia.

With socialism after the Second World War Staropramen was nationalised. After socialism ended in 1989, the brewery, along with the Braník and Měšťan breweries, became in 1992 part of the Prague Breweries group (Pražské Pivovary), which by 1996 came under control of the Bass company. Bass brought Ostravar into the group in 1997, then in 2000 sold its brewing operations to Interbrew, later AB InBev. In April 2012, Staropramen was bought by Molson Coors

1.5l bottle from a local supermarket. 5% ABV. Bottle looks very simple. Beer in the glass with a nice head. Mild malty aroma. Starts mild, malty, modest dry. Some metallical notes. Shy bitterness. Finish washy-metallical. Okay.

A sort of a review too for Lenny's Microbar in Conisbrough where I found this. It's an all macro place so not worth adding, its one cask pump in the rectangular shop unit was empty. However, this was a new beer for me, a crisp golden lager, which is very ordinary in design. Looks the part, doesn't feel it. Called Pravha.

Draft at the Aqua Bar, Pevensey, East Sussex as Staropramen Pravha. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with a fizzy white heed and lots of champagne bubbles. The aroma is yeasty, light malts. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a crisp, herbal, malt, yeasty, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

A dark brown beer, a head is medium and light beige. Aroma has breadyness, herbs, light sweetness of syrup. Taste has breadyness, caramel, even light roastiness. Medium- bodied. Exactly what I expected, pretty nice.

Keg at the Victoria Club, Aylesbury, Farewell Mambo 23/08/2025.
As 'Pravha'.
Golden copper with a lasting off white head, carbonation evident.
Nose is malt forward, biscuit, grains, herb.
Taste comprises stewed fruits, brown bread, crackers, grains, biscuit.
Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, semi drying close.
Passable affair ... a little heavy and too much malt for my liking.
