Description
Staropramen Brewery's history begins in 1869 when a corporation was formed on September 6, 1869, The brewery building was completed and beer first brewed in 1871 and the brand name Staropramen, literally meaning “old spring”, was registered in 1911.

Extensive modernization took place from 1933 to 1937 lead by masterbrewer Josef Paspa. The fermentation rooms with cooling vessels and large wooden barrels were replaced with modern steel tanks. In 1933, thanks to its volume of 800,000 hl of produced beer, the brewery became the biggest brewery in Czechoslovakia.

With socialism after the Second World War Staropramen was nationalised. After socialism ended in 1989, the brewery, along with the Braník and Měšťan breweries, became in 1992 part of the Prague Breweries group (Pražské Pivovary), which by 1996 came under control of the Bass company. Bass brought Ostravar into the group in 1997, then in 2000 sold its brewing operations to Interbrew, later AB InBev. In April 2012, Staropramen was bought by Molson Coors

Puszka. Aromat nienachalny. W smaku dość przyzwoite, jest goryczka, średnie nasilenia i nie odrzuca. Do wypicia, jeśli lubicie piwo z charakterem.

Can. Nose is treacle, brown sugar, dark malts. Taste is treacle, brown bread, burnt sugar, short sweet, slightly cardboard finish.

It's some how less than the sum of it's parts, a bit thin. Jolly enough though

0,5 can.Traditional can, golden yellow beer, with a nice big, loose head. Aroma: can "smell", then a little delicious sweet malt, with a little bit of stinging hops, which for me is not intense enough for an extra hoppy beer. When topped up, it had a very nice head. Medium body, normal staropramen base malt with a slightly different hopping. Which was better for me. I would accept this as a "basic" staropramen - although its taste is more unique. I didn't feel much difference anyway, a little sweeter, a little fruitier, but the same notes are felt. A little better, but it didn't become much more bitter from the extra hops. But it became somewhat more bitter :) It was delicious, that's the point.

I remember drinking the original version of this on my first visit to Prague at the start of this century for about 30 pence a pint. This version I believe is supposed to be an example of a wheat, if it is it's a light example. Clearly unfiltered it's drinkable but not much else good to say really.

0.5 l bottle. Pours a nice, hazy golden (peach) color with dissapeearing head. Fruits and wheats in aroma but the taste is not as significant as foreshadowed. Bitter with hints of fruits. Long, bitter finishing. Drinkable.
