Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Light copper color, with a small, tan head. The nose is honey, over-ripe apple, cloves, and syrup. Very sweet, with almost no bitterness. Light to medium body, crisp, and a little acidic. This is an overly sweet and simple dubbel. Could be darker, maltier, and more complex.

Pint at the brewpub. Black color, with a small, tan head. The nose is roasted malts, bitter chocolate, black coffee, light anise, and a touch of earthiness. Sweet and malty, with a significant bitterness that overpowers the sweetness. Medium body, chalky, and a little harsh. This is a solid, very aggressive porter. Pleasant roastiness, with good bitterness.

Bottle thanks to Bruce! Pours a dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is roast, chocolate, booze. Medium mouthfeel with rich malt, chocolate, and light bitterness. Good.

Bottle #76 at The Barley Wine Tasting, London - thanks to Kenneth for bringing this one. Pours hazy ruby with a light, beige cream head. Nose of rich alcohol, toasty caramel with touches of ripe citrus and spicy herbs, pine, honey. Big sweet flavor with sugary bread, rich toffee, bit of vanilla and honey, very creamy toffee. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with sticky sugars, some spices, some citrus, dry bread, toast, more honey, faint cocoa, toffee. Lots of nuance here. Delicious.

THE Barleywine tasting. Opaque dark brown beer, good bubbly tan head. Smooth palate, a little soft and airy. Nice toffee malts with a trace of tangy fruits including cherry. The bourbon is quite mild. Semi dry finish. Decent. 3.7

Sweetish dark toffee, Nice dark fruits - prune and fig. Trace of vanilla before mellow whisky. Rich and tangy. Finishes with more dark toffee, this time slightly tangy. Touch of red berry fruits. A little aniseed alcohol but no real heat. Great BA barleywine. Very very drinkable.

Bottle #76, thanks to Ken at THE Barley Wine Tasting, August 2012. It pours dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is cherry, plum, raisin, red grape, wood, light bourbon, toffee, lightly toasted coconut and jam. The taste is toffee, caramel, wood, bourbon, plum, raisin, cherry, blackcurrant, raisin, oak, dryness and chocolate, with a warming bourbon finish. Full body and low carbonation. A flavoursome, fruity barley wine.

Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, bread, caramel, light alcohol. Flavour is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, salty, caramel, caramelized caramel - malt, dried fruit, light chocolate - vanilla. Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty bitter hoppy caramel flavor with hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish malty hoppy bitter caramel and dark fruit finish.
