Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with some dominating Belgian style malt. Taste is also a nice enough mix between some candi sugar and nice Belgian malt with some fruity ester and a lightly spicy yeast. Body is not as full as I would have liked it with some good carbonation and no presence of alcohol. Not bad but makes me want to learn more from this brewery.

Imperial pint pour at Ginger Man. color is dark brown, cannot see through it. Thick head sits atop. Aroma is very thick sweet butterscotch, oh wait, no that diacetyl. Its there but its doable. Flavor losses the diacetyl and ends up being watery dark malts. Its drinkable stuff and right up the caliber of other River horse beers I have had.

August 2008 Beer of the Month Club

Overall Impression: Pretty boring pale lager, nothing distinguishes it really. This was part of the my Aug 2008 beer of the month pack, looks like River Horse makes some interesting beers, too bad they sent me this one...

Clear amber coloured body with a super-thin off-white head. Aroma of pit fruit, raisins, curacao and strong tobacco. Medium-bodied; Sharp taste of alcohol and malt with more tobacco and pit fruits coming through. Aftertaste bittering & strong - long lasting and potent. Overall, a strong offering, but good to try. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 28-May-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Nice deep ruby coloured body with strong brown tints and a fast-dying tan head. Aroma of super fresh hops, nice tart fruit, potent malt and even a tad of nuttiness. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong hoppy flavour up front that fades into maltiness and leaves a bit of the nuts on the palate. Aftertaste is quick and mild, nothing going on really. Overall, nothing more than a dry-hopped amber or red ale that doesn’t do much for anyone. This one should be overlooked unless you really want a crummy beer from Syracuse. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 31-December-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

12 oz bottle-pours a foamy to rich dissipating brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/anise, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Taste is rich dark malt-chocolate/cocoa, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Good carbonation. Closer to a dark porter with the amount of hops. Not quite to my taste but nice. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.
