The Spoetzl Brewery - named after its original brewmaster Kosmos Spoetzl, was founded in Shiner, Texas in 1909; hence their brand name for their beers - Shiner. Spoetzl is the oldest independent brewery in the State of Texas that began its storied history by brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for the many German and Czech settlers in the state. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the leading independent brewers in the country. The brewery is 100% family-owned and is a certified craft brewery by the Brewer’s Association. Every drop of Shiner is proudly brewed in Shiner.

Lemon candy nose. Shimmering yellow, no head. Dry, lemonade, seltzery. Light body, moderate carbonation. Not beery at all, barely enjoyable.

12oz bottle pours out amber topped with a sand head. Nose is nice light grain some toast notes and a little pitfruit. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts caramel pitfruit and some toast.

Cheap can, pour is cloudy IPA pale. Smell is dull aged IPA hops, I believe this date code (230314) means may of 2023, not sure, but that would account for the poor nose of the hops. Nice foamy head, but it fades after a few minutes to a pond scum. First taste is intensely bitter IPA hops, way over the top. Barely any co2. Comes across quite medicinal. Yepper, if I imagined hops as being used as a preservative, this would be it. Strong in the alky department, seems more than 7% to me. Mouthcoating and bitter as a bastardly bitch. Armadillo, broad-banded water, Coral, Eastern hognose, Fort Bend County pit viper, Texas rat, moccasin or Yellow-bellied water snake; not sure which one is providing the bite in this palate rototilling wrecking brew. I was thinking, since this was shiner, it may be a lighthearted IPA brew, but this spares no quarter for any IPA lover. Somebody please give me an insanely cheap, ice cold pale amercan macro lager to wash this down with, simply as a chaser, whew. There, you have it. IPA Lover? You will not be disappointed in this one. Maybe its the cactus water, not sure.

Bottle off clearance rack. Pop the lid and a beautiful chocolate aroma permeates the atmosphere. Its also got a very nice appeal to the eye, all darker beer and such. Yes, first taste is chocolate, but not as beautiful as the nose. The odd bitter chocolate thing is totally in the front and I'm not sure if I can pick out any of the other stuff that's supposed to be in there. Yea, so much chocolate forward, it really takes some hunting to find the nuts and fruit. In the middle I'm getting a warming sensation down and into the gullet. A little bit of unexpected bitterness starts to show it self on the finish. Not the best choco beer I've had but it aint too bad either. Has a mouth coating character about it. Its listed as a brown ale here but I'm not too sure if this is what it is. I guess it depends on the meaning of what is, is. It's brown, but I'd say its some kind of pastry thang.

Bottle from the Rio Rancho Albertsons. Black with a frothy, beige head. Aroma of toasted grains, coffee grounds. Taste is bitter with a touch of milk chocolate sweetness on the side. Medium-bodied, mild carbonation, decent chewiness. Overall, exceeded my expectations, and a decent example of the style,
