Description
Deeside Brewery is an independent craft beer producer based in Scotland’s crowning jewel – stunning Royal Deeside. We have been brewing since 2006 with a range of small batch hand crafted ales and lagers.

Deeside Brewery uses filtered spring water sourced from the River Dee, which starts 4000ft above seawater in the mountain ranges of the Cairngorms.

Our small team was enhanced in 2016 when we were joined by the founders of Loch Ness Brewery, Stephen Crossland and George Wotherspoon. This has brought us a new range of skills and experiences allowing us to develop our products further for the UK and Overseas markets with a focus on delivering consistently high beer quality as we continue to innovate and create new beers.

Keg at Soul bar, Aberdeen. It pours cloud amber with a medium off-white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, mellow, creamy, fruit smoothie, apricot, ripe mango and apricot. The taste is soft, yet crisp, bitter - sweet, grassy, fruit smoothie, milkshake vibe, mango, apricot and toasty grain. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent enough fruit smoothie beer.

Keg at Soul Bar, Aberdeen. It pours very dark...like ruby - black with a pretty decent beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, earthy, liquorice, coffee grounds, wood, tangy plum, prune and date. The taste is bitter - sweet, roasted malt, toasty, earth, coffee grounds, rather fruity, cola cubes, red berry, and cacao with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent fruity character. This actually tastes not bad on keg, would like to try it on cask.

Cask pint at The Grill, Aberdeen. 3.8% ABV. Golden colour, white head, nice lacing. A hint of fruit in the aroma. Smooth flavour, a bit too bland and sweet for my taste.

Cask half pint at The Howff, Aberdeen. 5.2% ABV. Served at near room temperature. Copper colour, white head, nice lacing. Weak malty aroma, a hint of malt vinegar. A hint of malt vinegar in the flavour too, but the beer is not sour. Definitely malty, a hint of over-ripe dark fruits. No sign of hops in any shape or form. IPA? You must be kidding me! Won’t buy again.

Bottle from Fountainhall Wines. It pours black with a tiny beige head. The aroma is pretty sweet, sticky dominated by milk chocolate, mocha coffee and toast. The taste is soft, sticky, rather sweet, grainy, coffee cake, milk chocolate and roasted maltage with a drying toasty finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. A touch sweet and lacking in depth. Fair.

Cask at The Howff, Aberdeen. It pours clear amber with a well appointed white head. The aroma is brown bread, earth, toasted grain, wood and a touch of orange marmalade. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, toasted brown bread, wood, resin, leather, light toffee and orange citrus on the back-end. Medium body and moderate carbonation. More of the old-school "bitter" style IPA, but a decent cask ale anyhow.
