Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

poured a nice deep reddish gold with a little off white head. Aroma is a sweet citrus and hops with some malt. Has a thin mouth to it with little, if any, bitterness. Has a citrus flavor to it. Also noticed malts and hops. Not bad, but sorta lacking in the taste department

Pours deep copper/amber into a shaker. Citrus and grass notes. Head quickly dissipates to mottled clutches -- no retention whatsoever. Mown grass with bitter aftertaste. Flat.

I have not been overly impressed by this brewer and am not a huge fan of this style but I decided to try this one anyway. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a ruby mahogany color with a small tan head. The aroma is sour caramel and nut. The flavor is dryish with a moderate nut presence and a light bitter floral hop element. The finish is malt and nutty. Ok

I have not found myself to be particularly fond of this brewer’s beers. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a bright bronze color with a medium sized light tan head. The aroma is light tangy malts and a bit of floral hops. The flavor is piney and has a strong floral hop presence with a light fruity undertone. The beer feels a bit thin and there are few noticeable malts to support the hops which prove to be unable to carry this beer on their own.

Bottle. Prune, chocolate, licorice and malt aroma. Medium brown with small head. Sweet prune and chocolate flavor with moderate hops and alcohol finish. Nice - probably need to age this more and re-rate.

Bottle from Wild Oats. Deep brown, nearly black pour. Loose sudsy head that foams up a bit big, then recedes. Deep roasty malt smell, with a bit of peat threaded around it. Taste certainly combines aspects of both porter and Scotch beer. As I said, deep roasties with hints of coffee, plus a tad of smokiness. Works down to a nice dry finish. Hop bitterness is sharp and well-balanced to the malts. A nice warming relaxer for the evening.

Pour is a complete black with a large tan head. Aroma is roasty, smoky and malty. Flavor is coffee and dark chocolate wih a liquid smoke aspect. Finish is very thick and rich and the alcohol is hidden well. Overall this is prob a standard porter and nothing to make it impy except the alcohol. It has it qualities but nothing to put it in the top of it catagory.

Deep dark porter with a creamy brown head, lacing. Pleasant aroma of figs, molasse, floral hops, vanilla and licorice. In mouth, rich pungeant chocolate, with burned caramel, smooth but long bitterness, funkey. This is quite a noice tribute to the Doc. Bought at Knightly Liquors, Orlando, 7.99$ for 4 pack.
