Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

Completely muddled. Terrible structure problems, as alcohol, green apples and poorly extracted malts compete for attention. And where are the hops? Finishes like a durian smells.

Fruity aroma, honey-colored. This was a little too sweet for my taste but it had a nice smoothness.

Mahogany colour; aroma of smoke, cascades, hint of iron; thin body - a little acidic even; metallic, mellowed malts (a little toasted caramel, whole grain bread), cascades...what precisely is the brewer trying to get at here?

Dark amber; aroma of candied fruits, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, pears; sweet palate shows more candy, peaches, slight woody notes, Belgian specialty malts (like biscuit and maybe a tiny bit of Special B - anyone else get this or I am just wishing?)...anyway back to the point. This is a sweet, soft (creamy even), complex beer that shows more 'steam' characteristics than Anchor does.

Amber color - nice looking. Total grapefruity hop aroma. Flavor is hoppy and citric. A bit thin on the malt and mouthfeel; ballpark body for an APA - but still if it were a little heavier I would like it more.
