Slightly hazy dark brown coloured body with a thin light brown head. Roasty malt flavour with some coffee tastes later on. Aftertaste has some dark chocolate (~60% cacao) tastes and a fair amount of roasted malt. Overall, a nice beer overall, pretty much what you’d expect from the title! I sampled this beer in a growler from draught after the RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia at Mike’s (the_beer_god) hotel room on 20-November-2004.

Clear amber coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of odd floral qualities-wierd for sure! Light-bodied; Sweet flavour up front fading into a maltiness that lasts long. Good to try, but not amazing. Overall, decent but not bad nor good. I sampled this beer at the November RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2004.

Pitch black body with a dense light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee & bitter burnt scents. Medium-bodied; Very nutty taste with good roasted malt flavours. Aftertaste shows more bitter tastes and more coffee flavours. Overall, not great-too much nuttiness for an oatmeal in my opinion. Many thanks to hopscotch for bringing this beer! I sampled from this growler at the November RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2004.

2004 growler @ the DCVAMD gathering. Good dark brown appearance, lightly hazy and a small fizzy beige head. Aroma of nuts, sour milk, malted milk and some dry roast. Flavor is quite roasty, lightly sweet, with a good amount of oatmeal smoothness, but it needs more body. The creaminess is dried out by the bitterness on the end. Didnt notice much belgian characteristic.

Growler @ the gathering. Reddish caramel color, good off-white head and great head retention. Spicy and herbal, with tons of fresh heather. Flavor is much the same, with just a lovely heather feel and flavor. It’s got a fluffy body, a touch of soapiness from the heather, but other than that, no wateriness or other palate problems. Very floral, like petals steeped in water. Light yeast apparency, hints of vanilla and almond.

Hops in the aroma. Dark copper color. Sweet fruit and hop flavor. Definitely similar to an IPA. Very dry finish.

Cloudy orange. Nice fruit aroma. Very sweet with fruit, sugar, and malt. I thought it was more of a barleywine than a tripel.

Town Hall’s best beer in some time. You could mistake this vey thick beer for a barleywine. Sweet and very rich, a slow sipper. Complex taste with fruits and wine. I don’t know the ABV but I am sure it is high. One of the best from Autumn Beer Review ’04.

Any time TH has something on cask I am sure to try it. This simple beer is all about hops. Cloudy appearance. Smooth from the cask.
