Cask (first for me in this country) at Red Hill. Slightly hazy amber with a good coat of cream head. Dusty aroma of apricot, flowers, pepper, fair bit of caramel. Soft mouthfeel. Sweetish with caramel and apricot, sharpish peppery bitterness, slightly soapy. Solid, convincing.

From a 330ml bottle on 30/11/2012. Pours a cloudy yellow golden with bugger all head. The aroma is Belgian yeast, some apple and spices. The flavour is sweet and fruity, with lots of yeast and spices present. There is some tart apple and more spices in the medium bitter finish. The carbonation is lively but typical of the style. While certainly not my favourite style, this is a decent crack at a strong Belgian ale.

There are notes of toffee biscuit, mulled wine, coffee and chocolate with a little late resin and some alcohol. There’s more coffee, chocolate, toffee and alcohol in the mouth. In both the aroma and taste there’s also a hint of shellfish and seawater, which is a bit odd but nevertheless, I really like this beer.

Bottle, 9C. Slightly hazy very pale gold with a fluffy white head that leaves clumps of lacing. Aroma of bread, spices, lemon blossoms, a hint of gooseberry. Medium bodied, fairly high carbonation. Light bready malt with a little citrus, firm bitterness, peppery at the end. Very refreshing, lovely balance. Only slight New World touches. Lingering bitterness and spices. Not the riotous fun of their Bohemian Pilsner, but an elegant drop.

Bottle,10C (just a little colder would have been better). Gold with a dense white head that lasts and leaves blots of lacing. Aroma of grain, dough, flowers, light spices, notes of oaky white wine perhaps more noticeable than gin and its botanicals. Slightly syrupy, carbonation feels lower than it looks. Wouldn’t have minded just a little more. Gin much more obvious in the taste - there’s a little hot breath of it in the first swallow and herbs are as prominent as the spicy hops. Aside from that first burst of gin, alcohol is well integrated. Sweet with apricots, peach, hay. Light dough. Bitterness struggles to balance in a lingering less than dry finish that has pepper, juniper and cloves. Complex without being off the leash.

Pours very dark brown with ruby hints.Rich malty aroma, with toasty notes, melanoidin malt, bready malt and caramel. A little restrained though.Similarly rich flavours, with more bready and toasty malt alongside some caramel. Also present is a spicy hop note.Carbonation seems a little high.

From a 500ml bottle on 23/7/2012. Pours a slightly cloudy golden with a medium head and some thick yeast floaties. Has a fairly slight aroma of sweet malt and fruit. Has a strong fruity flavour with apple and pear prominent, and finishes with a distinct, long peppery, citrus bitterness. Has more than a bit of Coopers Sparkling to it, though with a touch less sweetness and a bit more zing. Another good beer from Red Hill.

(bottle) Pours clear dark mahogany with no head. Impressive complex aroma with raisins, molasses, spice, rum and some floral notes. Excellent palate: medium bodied with fine creamy carbonation. Flavour has a sweetish start with raisins and molasses transforming in burnt toffee / dark roast malt bitterness. Overall this is an unusual and rich beer but the finish was a bit to harsh for me.

Bottle, 12C. Clear glowing amber with a good coat of off-white head. Aroma is floral and fruity, with apricots, pears, bread, toffee, white pepper. Bittersweet taste, with firm peppery bitterness straight away along with toffee, kumquats and nectarines. Nice balance, but less involving mouthfeel than hoped for. Very long bitter finish. [3.6](differences) Aroma is a bit dank and earthy, mouthfeel more involving but carbonation seems a tad high. Feels heavier than 5.5%. Powerful bitterness. Better - shame it’s my last bottle.

Bottle at the Kernel. Hazy gold beer, big fluffy off white head. Light dry palate. Sweet malts. Traces of bubblegum and fruit salad sweets. Dry finish. Messy and sweet.
