Bottle: Clear golden pour with a medium white head. Notes of malt, yeast, and a mild fruitiness are detectable. The taste is sweet and malty, a bit grassey and dull. Thanks BuckDich for sharing.

Aroma is lemon and raisin. Semi-clear amber color with no head. Lemon and grain flavor, unremarkable. Crisp, abrupt finish. Nothing very impressive about this beer, but it’s enjoyable.

Moderately strong bouquet of chocolate malts and maple syrup. Dark brown and clear, with a thin tan head, some lacing. Rich and tart flavor of good hops, raisins, and smoke. Hop finish and well timed. The alcohol isn’t well concealed and is especially prevalent at the end.

On tap at D’s in Swissvale’s Regent Square. $4.50 for a pint. Ubiquitous pale yellow american lager color with a big white foamy head. Head fades after a few minutes. Smells just like good ol beer, yeasty and a bit permufy or sweet. The flavor of this is mild and well behaved. No surprizes here and I’m glad. Enjoyable and easy going. Low medium tingly carbonation, but was expecting more. Definately has that back of throat pils personality that grows. This beer is friendly and enjoyable. Clean and zesty. Perhaps a good pale yellow session brew. Very glad to have had the chance to taste this rare beer. IPA and impy stout lovers will like that medium pilsner bitter bite that hangs for a few moments after the finsh.

22oz bomber poured crystal clear gold with thin bright white head. It has a sweet malt aroma with pale grainy malts, biscuit malts and a hint of floral hops. The flavor starts with sweet and pale to Munich grainy tasting malts. A soft floral note appears briefly. As the finish draws closer I sense slight fruity notes of plums, dates and a hint of raisins.

Sampled on draft the brewpub this beer poured a dark caramel-brown color with a medium sized fluffy off white head that left great lacing. The aroma was sweet, yeasty and had notes of sugar, bubblegum and golden fruits. the flavor was yeasty with notes of bubblegum, table sugar, golden fruits and a bit of phenol. Medium length finish. The mouthfeel was thick and full. Hid the alcohol rather well. Well done.

Thanks to dstchef. On tap at the Bocktwon in the Robinson Shopping Plaza. Pour is ubiquitous pale yellow american beer. Has a thin whitish head. Smells kinda beery with fruitiness mixed in. Believe it or not, the taste is weird; flowery and perfumy, if that is possible. Odd, but that is what I taste, it must be an olfactory thing going on here. Medium low carbonation. Taste is mildly bitter but not malty or hoppy extremes. Just enough personality to let you know it is a beer with taste. Interesting development of flavors. Begins with that medium bitter impact then fades to a friendly floral cornucopia. Finish is mild bitterness that lasts for only a short while. When I was sampling this at the Bocktown, I was told it was a barley wine. Not as good as most dopplebocks I’ve had such as Weltenburger Kloster Asam Bock but much better than sammy adams doublebock.

I was hoping to get a taste of this brew. On tap at the Bocktown in the Robinson shopping complex. Pour is cloudy dark brown but not really dark opaque. Nice big tan head that dissolves into about ¼ inch thick alabaster. The aroma is leathery sweetish and seems like it may be pretty high in alcohol. It also has those typical spicy notes that assure you it is a wheat beer. Taste starts smooth, with those whitbeer and hefe flavors we are so use to, not to strong. But then the taste builds to a stronger hotter feel that is uncommon for a regular wheat, this must be the bock coming thru. You sure can tell it is a higher alky content after a few drinks. Malty personality, not burning hot but alky none the less. I’m not sure but I think I may detect some roastyness in there too. Tastes start sweetish then go to a toasted caramel palate , much spice, is this coriander? Yes, this is an interesting brew with a complex evolution of flavors from start to finish. Starts as a smooth spicy wheat beer then finishes hard like a strong ale. Finish is bitter and alky, but not extremely high bitterness, just medium high. However, unlike other brews that finish with a medium high bitterness, this does not linger for long after the last sip. It doesn’t hang. Not quite as good as Schneider Aventinus but better than Samuel Adams Winter Lager. Overall, not bad for a weizenbock. A rare find from Penn, if you come across this you better taste it before it is gone.

On tap at the Bocktown Beer Pub in the robinson twp shopping complex. Pours a little darker than you typical pale yellow beer, perhaps a little cream soda like. Yes just like many marzens. Has a 1 alabaster head that hangs. A just plain beery aroma with hints of sourness. Initial tastes of fruityness, cherries and perhaps some oranges. But I must say this is not overpowering, it just lingers in the background. This brew is well behaved with very little, if any, bitterness. This stuff is easy to enjoy. A very interesting beer that is different in a way that is complex and hard to describe. It really has an aged leathery gentleman like personality like nothing I’ve ever tasted. Finish is mild, enjoyable and repeatable.A nice session beer. The makers of ’fruit beers’ should take some hints from this brew. It has fruit qualites that actually tastes like its brewed in and not added in later. Nice quality flavors. In retrospect there is a mild mild bitterness on the last gulp that does reveal a hop or malt presence.
