Description
Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making us one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft movement. We started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, adhering to the strict quality standards of the 16th-century Bavarian Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As we’ve expanded our lineup in recent years to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers, we’ve stayed true to our quality craftsmanship, brewing all of our beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops. We’re proud to say that Penn beers have won a total of twenty Great American Beer Festival® and World Beer Cup® medals.

This lager poured a pale yellow with a white frothy head. Somewhat boring to the nose. A little vinager??? First taste wasn’t too bad but a little watery and lifeless.

"Borrowed" a bottle of this beer from my father... It has a medium sized quickly descending head. It has a slightly cloudy amber colour and a rather sweet smell. It also tastes quite sweet with perhpas a hint of honey. Not really a great beer, but it is certainly interesting enough.

Updated 2020 covid times: Still drinking and enjoying this. Got a bottle recently for old times sake. Its dark, its refreshing and has just enough bitterness to let you know its well made darker beer, nothing more. Never insulting yet it has body. Well made. Still one of most favorite affordable dark beers. Old rating 2008: I don’t get it, it says pure barley malt lager beer but on this site it also says Hallertau hops! Nice label, big viking woman riding a light colored horse. 12 oz brown bottle. Pop the lid and it smells like a porter or stout. Also has a floral or fruity attribute about the aroma. Pours very dark, but transparent, reddish brown. Initial flavor hit of Roastyness that is not bitter. A really good beer! Perhaps a hint of lingering bitter on the finish, but just barely.

Your average pale yellow american beer. Some hops or bitter linger finish. I didn’t seem to notice anything real special about this brew. I’m gonna have to give this a rerate down the road. I may have been to buzzed to properly rate this. On tap at the north park deckhouse in robinson.

A label with a nice history on it - I imagine an oompah band playing in the background as I crack the lid on this brown 12 oz bottle. Pours like a darker transparent regular lager. Pretty nice, perhaps sweet aroma. Real beery intial flavor with lots of personality that is beefy like and IPA or stout yet it is not offensively bitter. Some hop linger that lasts for a while on the finish.

Been waiting to try this with such a rating for Penn. Yeasty aroma, pours dark transparent brown. Nice story on the label. 12 oz bottle. Initial hoppy (not possible?) or malty flavor - says pure barley on label. Has a personality of alcohol and it shows thru a bit. As good as german doppelbocks. Finish is a little bitter but does not linger for too many minutes. Not what was expected.

This lager poured a nice brown colour with almost no head. Even after a vigourous pour. Scents include smoke, caramel and bread. First sip was nice with flavours of sweet roasted malts and a little smoke flavour too. The finnish is sweet and the palate is a little bit floral.
