Wolf of the Willows name came from a story about a Roman naturalist who first identified the hop vine. The hop was described as wild and untamed, twining and choking the willows, taking them down like a wolf to the flock. They were named Lupus Salictarius, Latin for Wolf of the Willows.
Since that 2014 we've hand built our own brewery and taproom in Mordialloc, Victoria and are lucky enough to work with some of the most talented and incredible human beings going around.
We have a passion for producing hand crafted, small batch, modern beers that are distinct in quality, flavour and character. From award winning smashable lagers, through to barrel aged stouts, we're here to make the best beer, no short cuts, no compromise.
Our satisfaction comes from taking raw, natural ingredients and turning them into beers that we love to drink. We take pride in the fact that we're still family owned and operated, and brew all our beers.
This all said, if we can simply provide you with a moment of enjoyment from a pint of one of our humble ales, then our job is done.

(Can) Pours clear amber with big loose white head. Aroma is strong on pine. Medium body with good carbonation. Taste is a nice balance of pine and earthy notes against some subtle toffee malt. Pleasant bitterness in finish. Very nice.

Another Quarantinny. Very tock standard amber. A little toffee, some biscuit and caramel. All a bit too understated for me.

On tap at Penny Blue. A bit hazy dark golden with a white head. Aroma and taste of mild hops, some citrus and malt. Soft and easy to drink.

From a 440ml can on 13/1/2020. Pours not far off black with virtually no head. Smells of chocolate, umami and a little smoke. Tastes of chocolate, truffles, soy, molasses, and a touch of peat, with an odd umami finish - not quite bacon, but close. The mouthfeel is slick and syrupy. It drinks big, but maybe not quite 13.9%. This is a sweet dessertish sipper, that's unusual, but quite approachable. Perhaps not quite a home run, but quite enjoyable and interesting.

Can. Cloudy golden. Citrus and resinous nose. Same in mouth. Full-flavoured. Approaching barleywine sweetness and booziness.

Pours black with a fading head.Nose shows heavy smoke, charcoal, bacon, smoked ham, heavy roast, bready malt caramel.Flavours include intense roast and smoke along with whisky notes and a big whack of booze.

Can. Almost black with a fat coat of tan head. Aroma is roasty and peated with tobacco, mocha, game (!), berries. As it warms a waft of whisky is more obvious. Sweet at first then woody, vinous, peated and bitterness swoop in. Somehow it doesn't seem oppressive or even shouty. Alcohol is well-integrated (but surely excessive). Revelatory as it warms to ~14C.

Can. Golden. Smoky capsicum nose. It burns! I both love and hate this. Dig the idea and actually like the smokiness and initial burn. But there is zero sourness and the lingering pineapple and gullet burn gets a bit overbearing.

Can. Gold with a white head that lasts OK. 3+ Ashtray aroma. I suppose there's some fruit underneath there too. Light bodied. Spicy and slightly sour. Tastes burnt - charred peppers that haven't been peeled well, plastic. Some heat at the end. Maybe there's some other things underneath but I just gave up. Awful.
