Description
Wolf of the Willows is a brewing company established by Scotty and Renae McKinnon who first landed on the Australian brewing scene after releasing their XPA in 2014.
Wolf of the Willows name came from a story about a Roman naturalist who first identified the hop vine. The hop was described as wild and untamed, twining and choking the willows, taking them down like a wolf to the flock. They were named Lupus Salictarius, Latin for Wolf of the Willows.
Since that 2014 we've hand built our own brewery and taproom in Mordialloc, Victoria and are lucky enough to work with some of the most talented and incredible human beings going around.
We have a passion for producing hand crafted, small batch, modern beers that are distinct in quality, flavour and character. From award winning smashable lagers, through to barrel aged stouts, we're here to make the best beer, no short cuts, no compromise.
Our satisfaction comes from taking raw, natural ingredients and turning them into beers that we love to drink. We take pride in the fact that we're still family owned and operated, and brew all our beers.
This all said, if we can simply provide you with a moment of enjoyment from a pint of one of our humble ales, then our job is done.

Can. Clear golden amber, 2cm white head. Aroma of kumquat, grapefruit, lime, breadcrust, pine. Moderately sweet with plainish breadcrusty malt, lots of citrus before a piney and properly bitter finish. Pretty good.

Can. Gold, white head, low bead. Under-ripe tropical aroma with bread and grass. Clean but that's the only real hint of lager - fruity then resinous hops dominate. Bitterness swells rather than grips. Would have liked slightly higher carbonation. Pretty good.

I approve of strong beer in 250ml cans. Black. An inch of tan head that never quite disappears. Aroma of heavy roast, blackberry reduction, spicy oak, Welsh Cakes. Oily, lowish carbonation. Sweet chocolate and berries, met with roasted, spicy and bitter flavours. Good.

Can. Clear reddish brown with a good cm of cream head. Smells of good, slightly spiced chocolate, brioche. Just about medium bodied. Mostly about chocolate but not all that sweet at 10C with light bread and decent bitterness - maybe a touch of roast too. Nice balance. Liked this more than expected.

Can. Cloudy orange with a small white head. Tropical and peachy aroma with crackery bread. Loads of fruit (yes, pineapple, passionfruit & peach) in the taste but remains fairly clean with resin, herbs and a little bitterness towards the end. Very nice.

Can. Amber with a 2cm white head. A brusque grapefruit aroma with breadcrust, some berries and weeds behind - a little like it's been spritzed with a cleaning product. Less so upon a taste, but then that's a bit minty and mentholish. Various unconvincing flavours fade into modest bitterness. Haphazard.

Normal XPA is excellent when fresh. Can. Golden amber with a 2cm white head that fades pretty fast. Pungent grapefruit, herbal lemon and blood orange aroma is a mite laundry powderish but punchy and fun. Crackery malt under loads of citrus and hints of tropical fruit before a fairly bitter end that has a hint of burn to it.

Pours gold with a fading white head.Nose shows citrus, herbal hops, clean malt, floral notes.Flavours include massive citrus and herbal notes including a pithy note and a medicinal, almost mouldy note. Note sure if that's the terpenes or something gone wrong.
