Review from notes, Sample at The Microbrew Invitational 6/3/2017 Dark brown soft bubbly tan head. Rich chocolate with hints of earth and light pitted fruit. Smooth clean well made.

Cloudy orange. No head. The smell is outrageous. Banana Esther, smooth and sweet with citrus and wheat. Delicious. Flavorful. Love the banana presence. Has a euro hop bitterness finish.

Dark brown. Lots of clarity. Pretty much no aroma. Smoked finish. More like an amber beer with pineapple and ginger root and honey.

Nitro at Canary Square, 5/11/17.
Dark mahogany with milk chocolate hues. Opaque and with a typical nitro head that is dark beige and showing strong retention.
Deep roast shows bitter cocoa, some ash and quite a bit of molasses/treacle character. Buttercream-like notes from the base malts do soften things but it still remains quite intense with tons of ash and vinous qualities. Clean and with no alcohol breaking through.
Ashy roast notes collect on the edges of the palate as light milk chocolate character is produced by the dark and base malts combining. Typical watery-soft-slick nitro texture with some vegetal notes, prune and molasses on the finish that are all done to-style. No citrusy hops here is a big plus and the alcohol somehow doesnt manage to cut through the nitro-weakened texture. Pretty nice baltic porter though of course I hate everything nitrogen does to a beer. I have had this one on draught before and it was still rich, burnt and vinous.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a semi-dark amber close to brown sort of color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Slight lace.
The aroma had some rum, fruity sweet woodiness, light honey, some vanilla, freshly cut grass, some clove, light lemon and ended with some dark bread.
The flavor was moderately sweet and dry with some of the rum and dark bread taking precedence. Super light on the spicy clove. The aftertaste was a somewhat rum, sweet wood and dark bread. Finish was mainly the rum and sweet wood.
The palate was semi-dry with a touch of the woody sweet booziness coming along to apply just a touch of acceptable \"heat\" to play with the body which was about medium. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty nice Belgian strong dark ale.

The appearance was a ruddy amber color with a finger’s worth of foamy white head. Slightly dissipated to leave some messy lace.
The aroma had some tart green apples, raisins, vinous mustiness, dark bread, black cherries, funk/basement, some acidity, mulch, leather, dried leaves and butterscotch.
The flavor was semi-sweet and added a little bit of bubblegum with some grassiness. Some acidity. All seemed to blend together to lead into the aftertaste and ride on into the finish.
The palate was about medium bodied perhaps just a touch under and having a good carbonation about it. ABV felt as projected. Mild acidic harshness, but wasn’t distracting.
Overall, nice take on one of those Flemish styled \"oud bruins\" and by an American brewer nonetheless. I’d have this again.

Crowler to chalice, the appearance was a semi-dark amber color with a lasting finger and a half’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Light stringy lace.
The aroma had some dark fruit, light amount of Belgian sugar, light grassy hops, dark bread, light butterscotch and ended with a little bit of earthy to herbal qualities.
The flavor moderately leaned towards the sweet side and brought in a little bit of damp sweet wood. Aftertaste was semi-sweet and somewhat \"doughy.\" Finish was herbal with a little bit of sweet wood and dark fruit.
The palate was medium bodied with a good sipping quality about it. Sly carbonation but felt fine. ABV felt as projected.
Overall, it’s alright as is, but I was hoping for some \"apples\" and a little bit of Belgian spice. Might have again for me, but not really that close in style, to be honest.

The appearance was a cloudy burnt yellow to orange color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a moderate pace. Some light stringy lace here and there.
The aroma had a blend of sweet to bitter orange pulp and rind, some mango and a little bit of pineapple playing with some bubblegum and a little bit of citrus. Some sweet dough and white pepper slide in.
The flavor was semi-sweet through the pulp and rind. White pepper seemed to disappear here. Aftertaste was moderately sweet touching the finish in the same sort of way.
The palate was almost medium bodied, sitting just a touch under and having a pretty good carbonation. ABV felt fine. Somewhat dry along my tongue.
Overall, pretty good Belgian pale ale I could have again.

Draught at the brewery 1/19/17
Lightly to moderately hazy, pale bronze with a small, off-white head showing low retention.
Lactic acid, light doughy yeast and a moderate amount of juniper-like spiciness give a rough intimation of a sahti, though there’s quite a bit of raw lactic character here which pushes it towards the American kettle sour realm.
Too much lactic acidity mixed with caramel, bread and dough. Spices are strong but not overbearing. Odd powdered sugar-like notes on the end. Carbonation and texture are appropriate, attenuation is medium. No alcohol noted. Has some similarities to a sahti but definitely a ways off from the real thing.

Dark red. Brown to black at the core. The only aroma I get is a little smoke. Thank goodness it’s not a ham bomb. Smoked meat, salt, pine and oak. Really soft yet dense mouthfeel. Lingering ashy finish.
