This beer was known as one of the first Croatian microbrewery products, produced in a small brewery in a town of Pazarište, near Gospić in Croatian mountain region, famous for its clear spring water, which is also used in production of this brew. It was considered as one of the best Croatian beers, due to the fact it wasn’t pasteurized and produced in small amounts, being also rare and hard to find until fairly recently. Quality of this beer fell with use of additives for preservation so now it tastes more similar to macro Dunkels. Nevertheless, it is still good. I’ve had it many times since 2005, but I’m only rating it now. Pours dark brown with orange tint and quickly diminishing beige head. Weak aroma of malts and nuts, you won’t notice it if the beer is to cold. Medium body, but a full malty taste, not many hops here, low carbonation, well balanced. Ends with a dry finish. Highly recommended.

33cl bottle (5%) in a bar in Zadar, Croatia. Pours golden with a small white head. Lightly malty aroma with some hops. Finishes slightly dry with a balanced bitterness. Definitely a step up from the pale lagers of Croatia. Refreshing and quite decent lager. (Backlog: tasted 2012-09-10)

33cl bottle (6,1%) in a café in Split (June 2009). Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nice surprise to find another decent dark beer in Croatia. Malty aroma with caramel and some roasty notes. Not as good as Tomislav in my opinion, but an undisputed second place for me on this trip.

For my taste this is the best dark beer in Croatia. It’s brewed in small brewery without preservants. Dark brown color. It’s not heavy but it is rich, moderately sweet, preasant and drinkable. Whenever I have a chance to drink this beer I must drink it. :-)
