Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Marko. Pours a clear nutty brown with a small rough off-white head. Nutty, bready aroma. Medium body, some roast, burned caramel, pumpernickel and lots of metal. Has a diacetyl touch. Some roasted bitterness in the finish too. Really more of a Dunkel. 030511

07/10/2010 33cl bottle @ home thanks to the people at Ličanka for the reception in the brewery

Pours a clear amber coloured beer. White fine head that disappears quick, little adhesive. Aroma has caramel, malst, yeast, hops. MF is a little flat, medium body. Taste has caramel, sweet malts, hop bitters and some spices. Aftertaste is watery, just a little hopbitters and some sweet malts.

NOTE: This is a blend of the Velebitsko and Velebitsko Tamno, if they use the same percentages as their inspirers at Medvedgrad, it's 70% light, 30% dark beer, but they wouldn't tell. Actually I think I like this one better than either of the two original beers. Probably because the blend adds to the complexity. Only the aftertaste is pretty weak.

06/09/2010 - 20cl UNFILTERED beer @ Ličanka brewery thanks to the people at Ličanka for the reception in the brewery

Very cloudy rust brown beer, big rocky head. Aroma has yeasts, caramel, some mocha. Flat mouthfeeling (again: this is beer straight from the lager tank), medium body and somewhat creamy texture. Taste is malty yeast and coffee. Aftertaste has some caramel, yeast and a little mocha.

07/10/2010 - 33cl bottle @ home

Pours a clear dark brown beer with red glare. Fine white head, almost beige. Aroma has caramel, sweet malts, somewhat meaty, dark fruits, hops. Taste has roasted malts, some caramel, a little hop. Aftertaste has both coffee bitter from the roasted malts and hop bitters. Some spices. Pretty dry for a brown.

note: scores are given for the bottled version. The scores for the unfiltered beer are: Ar: 3/10, Ap: 4/5, T: 5/10, P: 4/5, O: 12, Total: 2.8 Conclusion: I like the unfiltered dark beer better than the bottled version. Only the smelly yeast is not so pleasant.

Very milky yellowish beer, big creamy adhesive head. Aroma has yeast, hops, some spices. MF is a little flat, then again this beer comes right out of the lager tank of course. Medium to full body with a crispy bite. Taste is very bitter from the hops, some sweetness, malts and yeast. Oh the yeast. Aftertaste is hops and some pepper.

07/10/2010 - 50cl bottle @ home

Pours a clear light yellow beer. Little carbonisation in the glass. Aroma holds sweet malts, hops, spices, a little musk (the yeast). Taste is bitter, a little sweets from the malt. Not very complex. Aftertaste is quite hoppy, bitter, dry and a little "dirty". note: the scores entered are the one for the bottled version. The scores for the unfiltered are: Ar: 6/10, Ap: 4/5, T: 6/10, P: 3/10, O: 12/20, total: 3.1

Bottle (courtesy of ogivlado and doggythedog - thanks). Sweet chocolate and graham cracker malt aroma (like a McVitties chocolate covered digestive). Clear chestnut color with minimal head. Slightly sweet chocolate and graham cracker malt flavor with a lightly bitter grass hops finish. Very tasty - a great dunkel.

sweet malty, slightly hoppy, caramelly aroma. a little buttery. clear dark brown, small yellow smooth head. faint sour flavor, also caramel, faint roasted stuff. the sourness is okay, actually suits the beer a little, but i don’t think it is intended.
