About
Proud Early Bird of Craft Beer - The Big Rock Story
17,000 years ago, a glacier carried a huge rock onto the Alberta prairies where none like it had been before. This "big rock" is the glacial erratic we take our name from, as no doubt, our founder's notion of creating a craft brewery in 1985 was a bit erratic at the time.
The rooster represents our early arrival as craft brewers. It's also a bit of a nod to the "cock of the walk" bravura that Ed McNally had when he started Big Rock Brewery.
We craft our beer with our brewmasters’ skill and imagination, utilizing local ingredients and innovative processes, all rooted in Ed McNally's original passion for excellence and in doing things differently and better.

Draught at Big Rock Urban Brewery, Vancouver
Golden colour; creamy mouthfeel, corn flavour, not much evidence of rye; clean but with no emotions.

Hazy blond colour with generous head. The aroma is ok, some hop bag and malts. The mouthfeel is soft and dry, biscuity malt base, but also unpleasant pithy finish.

Can - Lots of toffee and rich malts. Clear amber with a small white head. Touch of smoke and some nice rich caramel toffee notes. Well done for the style.

A very well aged fruit lambic with complex flavors and a woody touch upraising a balanced fruity / wild side and remaining very smooth. J'aime beaucoup.

Pretty standard big rock beer, mild in every sense. Not overly flavourful, but clean and drinkable.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange-amber with lots of floaties and a medium, fluffy, long lasting, ecru head that laces. Mild aroma of caramel malt, orange, grapefruit, peach and pine. Sweet flavour of biscuit malt, caramel, mandarin orange, grapefruit peel, lemon and faint pine with a dry, bitter grass finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Ok, but nothing to get excited about. Lacks hop punch.

Amber with a thin head. Berry aroma - raspberry first, not 100% what else. Clean lactic note with a juice berry character. Good tart-sweet balance. For a pretty ordinary type of beer, well made.
