Bottle, thanks to Matt W. Clear golden pour with a small white head. Fragrant hop and citrus notes present in the nose. Similar flavour with some balancing sweet malts. Light and easy drinking. Dry bitter finish. Plenty to like here considering the strength and the citra hop presence bumps up the score further. Not the greatest offering from the excellent Buxton, but decent all the same.

Huge & stable beige to greige head, dense and even, over brownish-tinted, opaque dark beer, lively carbonated. Very aromatic USA-hops nose, fruity. Bit of frying oil aroma through all the exotic fruit from the hops; and some roasted notes already. Bitter, hoppy, resiny, dry, and some roasted coffee and melanoidin notes. Only short, citric fruitiness, as chocolate-and-orange. Finish is very raw-bitter, quinine-like. Medium bodied at least, and very carbonated feel. Good, if a bit raw black IPA. Txs, my friend!

Bottle, thanks to Matt W. Deep dark brown pour with a nicely lingering medium sized tan head. Nose was piney hop, citrus and roast. Flavour had notes of dark chocolate, roast, malts, citrus and some pretty robust hop bitterness. Well smothered alcohol. Dried out nicely towards the finish. A very solid and drinkable Black IPA from Buxton who now boast a top quality quiver.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours dark brown/black with a very slight tan head that didn’t linger. Nice aromas of burnt malt and hop. Near full bodied. Flavor is very burnt malt with something very like herbal hop. Maybe a bit grassy. The hop component is strong, rendering this bitter. There’s a bit of chocolate. The herbal aspect is strong and continuing. Hoppier than many. Finishes on a surprising note of slightly milk chocolate. There’s a lot to think about with this one.

Bottle at home, 23rd February 2012. Aroma is pleasant, a nice looking drink, jet black. Love the taste, good stuff. Buxton are knocking out the good stuff. Would like to see an Imperial Stout
