My bottle does not say nut on it, but the description above is the same description that’s on CBC’s website for Carolina Brown Ale @ 4.9%. Fresh malty bready aroma. Looks somewhat like iced tea. Peaty, English in nature. Leather, some cutting sizzle. Does not hide alky well. Finish is mishy creamy old country. Left wanting. No way is this in the same style as East End Fat Gary, Beaver Brown Note or Zuckfoltzfus Squirrel Bait. Shame.

So, I drive to North Carolina only to get a bottle of west coast IPA? WTF? Smells crisp and rather hop bitter, if you can believe that. Hazy and I thought west coast IPA was not hazy? Nice rocky head. Big and bitter, even with a date of 10/6/15 on the label. Yes, its big nasty Nellie ride on your tongue bitter. Really like chewing on green grapefruit rinds that were soaked in turpentine. Wewwie. Long bitter ipa hop finish that borders on imperial status. Too much for this lagerdog. Mouth coating oily sensations all round. If you enjoy this style, ignore my numbers, terribly on style.

12oz bottle, brought back from NC. Poured a relatively clear ruby-brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma was light, nutty caramel notes, some sweet malts. Flavor was sweet caramel notes, light chocolate.

12 oz. bottle. Pours clear, dark copper, with a small, bubbly, tan head. Big, malty aromas of caramel, peat, and honey. Some hopping - I get some light saaz earthiness and a little pine. Sweet flavor, with some nice, mellow spice and light bitterness. Medium body, smooth, and a little acidic. Overall, this is a reasonably nice amber lager. It doesn’t really hit the high points of a good marzen in my opinion, but it’s a pretty good beer.

Super hazy golden and honey coloured body with a glow of light orange, all with a nice thinnish, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of honey, alcohol, citrus, herbs, yeast, pine and a lot of hops - mostly cascade and PNW smelling, at least. Full-bodied; Rich yeastie flavour with a ton of alcohol and citrus up front and a good deep taste showing the honey and resinous flavours of the hops as well. Aftertaste all has a good malt backbone with a lot of hop flavours, a good deal of citrus and resin and more sweetness than I can remember from any other Imperial IPA. Overall, a very nicely balanced beer with still a lot of alcohol and depth and a sweet honey finish that shows a nice representation of the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Cary, North Carolina on 02-August-2014 for US$1,99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-September-2014, bottled on 25-June-2014. Copper colored with a white head. Medium citrus and pine hops with light caramel malts, too. Light hop bite and a bit of sweet malts, too. Refreshing on the beach. Nice but nothing special.

Sample at the "Beer Tasting on the Front Porch". The beer is a clear orange color with a thin light beige head that dissipates to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Lightly floral hops aroma with notes of grainy malt. Light to medium body with a pungent grainy malt flavor that potentially points to the age of the bottle. Notes of floral and fruity hops as well. The finish is bready and grainy with a fruity aftertaste. Below average overall.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market in Raleigh, NC. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is dark, very faintly roasted malts, chocolate and caramel. Taste is toasted malts, chocolate and very faint leafy hops. A nutty note in the finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle courtesy of Bill on 07/12/2009. Clear golden amber body with a small frothy off-white head. Sweet earthy and pale malt aroma. Earthy, slightly spicy malt flavor with a bit of floral hops. Medium body with moderately low carbonation.
