Each year, we forage wild ingredients from the glorious countryside and craggy coastlines of the South of England, and infuse them in a natural brewing process to create seasonal limited-batch recipes.
We bring back all things weird and wonderful, from dandelion root and pine sap, to lemon verbena and hogweed. Not everything works of course, but as a Michelin-trained chef, Earth Ale founder - Alex Lewis - has learned to trust his nose and palette. It also explains why our beers can be paired perfectly with food, and why a strong motivation behind our brewing is the dining experience.
After spending a few years brewing at the old Chocolate Factory in North London, which has sadly now been demolished, we’re thrilled to have found a new brewery home at the beautiful Bothy Vineyard in Oxfordshire. Although they sadly no longer make wine, a passion for creating quality products is built into their walls - a legacy we plan to continue.

Keg at the Nottingham Beer Festival 2021. Hazy purple colour with a pinkish head. Lots of elderberry fruity. Slight tart and crisp.

Tap at the tap. Aroma is quite retrained - Low key tart berries. Hazy purple. Creamy pink head. Light-medium sour. Berries. But to be honest I am staggeringly to pick up elderflower. That may well be me being an ignoramus though. Tart salty if not over exciting. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat. Long astringent finish.

Tap at the tap. Earthy slightly yeasty aroma. Hazy amber. Blotchy creamy off-white head. Sour yeasty flava. Underlying caramel sweetness. Medium bodied. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long finish. It's fine.

Tap at the tap. Aroma has a sour Sherry tinge to creamy coffee and flowers. Dark. A red tint. Thick creamy beige head. A creamy coffee roasty core. There is then a sour slight vinous edge with a sweet streak... so I'd associate that with Dandelion and Burdock so presumably that's the big D. The sourness is more prominent into the finish. Medium-heavy bodied. Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long somewhat astringent finish. Mixes a creamy stour with the foraged and Brett elements a smooth effect.

Keg at the tap. Earth spicy rye aroma. Hazy red tinged brown. Thick fluffy foamy white head. Light-medium bitter. Spicy. Sour bread (Nordic style, not bread that is literally sour). A touch of underlying sweetness. Light bodied. Slick if thin. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. A relaxed rustic beer... liquid sour bread. I like.

20/11/2020. Bottle sample courtesy of the SHIG. Pours clear dark gold with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is herbal, spicy, gooseberry, touch of ripe banana. Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Certainly pungent, not sure I liked it that much.

Bottle: Poured a unclear copper with a thin whispery white head. Aroma is spicy, gooseberry, malts. Taste is spicy, veggie, some fruit that is quickly covered by malts and sawdust.

Sweet and too carbonated for my liking. Nice concept though
