Description
Established in 1719, Belhaven is Scotland’s oldest working brewery. With abundant local barley, fine water from the brewery well and access to markets up and down the coast, Belhaven was the perfect place for a brewery back then, and it still is today. In 1719, Dunbar market gardener John Johnstone erected a brewery close to Belhaven Bay and founded a brewing dynasty which was to last for 250 years and a brewery which would last much longer. The brewery and maltings persevered through the wars and upheavals of the early 20th Century and was eventually sold by John Johnstone’s descendants in 1972. In 2005 is was taken over by Greene King who kept the Brewery open in Scotland.

0.33 l bottle purchased back in Fuengirola. Pours copper with thin, quickly disappearing head. Nose is moderate sweet grainy and fruity. Its taste is in fact better, with notes of nuts, grains and some fruits. Short sweet finish, light, and somewhat watery mouthfeel and average carbo. Bit mediocre, but without outstanding flaws.

440ml tall can. Pours a wonderful nitro topped clear black. Aroma is dark roast malts. Beer is light as per the ABV and the flavour is simple dark roast malts with a hint of hop bitterness. This is true to the label, "smooth velvet" aided by the nitro it is a simple and very easy to drink stout, almost a quaffing stout.
Excellent when you want a light & lower ABV dark beer.

Clear orange pour, small white head. Aroma is odd. Wet paper, and apples with hints if pale malts and sweet apple skins. Soft mouth feel, slightly watery mouth feel. Finish is very buttery with alot of buttery scotch barrel, and vanilla with fruit and alot of apples. This is a wreck.

Clear amber pour, no head. Aroma of.............yup, still searching.............faint apples, wet paper, light cereals. Watery mouth feel, low carb. Finish is low on bitterness, slightly sour apple finish, wet paper, minerals. Tasted like they butchered this beer for the US market. By far the worst in the pack.

Black pour, with ruby hues, and a small white head. Sweet malty aroma, nice roasted malts, sweet caramels, and some nice cereals. Lively carb, some body. A nice sweet roasty amlt finish, with a medium bitterness, and some subtle piney hops.

Aroma of British hops, nice and sharp citrus hops with touches of pine and a slight biscuit malt. The flavor is very malty and quite bready with a slight metallic peat flavor. Finish is sweet on the malt with a lingering bitterness.

Nitro can.
Cheap sweet malts. Next to no hops. Very sweet, light bitter finish with a toffee honey aftertaste. Meh.
