Description
Established in 1719, Belhaven is Scotland’s oldest working brewery. With abundant local barley, fine water from the brewery well and access to markets up and down the coast, Belhaven was the perfect place for a brewery back then, and it still is today. In 1719, Dunbar market gardener John Johnstone erected a brewery close to Belhaven Bay and founded a brewing dynasty which was to last for 250 years and a brewery which would last much longer. The brewery and maltings persevered through the wars and upheavals of the early 20th Century and was eventually sold by John Johnstone’s descendants in 1972. In 2005 is was taken over by Greene King who kept the Brewery open in Scotland.

Pours a deep gold color, loads of carbonation. Aroma smack of artifical blueberry. Flavour is big time artificiala, dn slightly salty? I don’t know, every time i have a blueberry beer, i get this salty artificial taste. weird.

this was a great IPA. this is a good example that american IPA’s dont have to be uber hoppy to be hoppy and flavourful. great hoppy nose, but its not insanely bitter. a really refreshing beer, very well made, one of my favorites.

aroma is sweet malt, and caramel. Flavour is again, big on the malt, and caramel, with slight apple notes, and sweet figs. Finish is quite malty, with a good hop kick. Really nice beer.

Bottiglia.

[as Belhaven Scottish Ale / Export (Bottle & Keg), ABV 5.2%] Bottiglia.

Bottle from Dikkers Slijterij, Hoogeveen. Aroma is sweetish grainy malt, straw, bready notes, some caramel, buttery notes and a slight hint of fruits from the hops. Flavour is above moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter. Body is medium. Slightly buttery and sweetish Pilsener, not exactly how I like ’em.

Bottle from Dikkers Slijterij, Hoogeveen. Aroma is dark malt, oats, sweet chocolate, roast, some caramel, touch of mocha and liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is just above medium and a bit creamy. This Stout gets the job done with its rich oat malts and sweet dark chocolate aroma.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is sticky malt, strong caramel toffee, brown sugar, touch of dried dark fruits including figs. Flavour is quite sweet and light bitter. Body is medium with a sticky mouthfeel. A bit too heavy on the sticky sweetness for my taste.
