Description
Diamond Bear Brewing Company was founded in 2000 by Russ and Sue Melton with the mission of providing Arkansas and the region with a beer of their own. Diamond Bear was Little Rock’s first production brewery in 15 years. The name "Diamond Bear" comes from the first two nicknames for Arkansas. Initially, Arkansas was called "the Bear State." But in 1905 when diamonds were discovered in Arkansas, it was changed to "the Diamond State."

Bottle: Deep chestnut brown pour with a small tan head. Mild nose is roast and cocoa, continuing into the taste. The English porter influence is subtle and appreciated; good roast, cocoa, and a faint bittersweet to go along with a small amount of sour. Clean finish, but it does border on being chalky. Overall nicely done.

Bottle, has sat around for a while, but fairly climate controlled at least. Pours dark ruby black, medium brown head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving decent lacing. Aroma is quite chocolatey, roast, ashtray. Flavor is medium sweet, chocolate, light bitter. Not bad at all, actually. Medium body, nice effort.

Bottle - thanks Mora2000 for state #49! Pours hazy amber with a small off-white head that dissipates quickly with good lacing. Aroma is caramel, pine. Flavor is the same, medium sweet and lightly bitter; piney hops and caramel malts dominate. Bitterness increases to the finish and becomes slightly metallic. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Actually not bad, likely a bit old. Bottle was notched "07" but I am not sure which year, or if that was a bottled on or a best buy date.

Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a clear gold body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up mango like tropical fruit notes with just a sliver of pine off in the background and a slim sweet malt base that is showing through. The taste is similar with a decent level of mango tropical fruitiness as well as some bitter tangelo that gets sweetened up by a little bit of malt. The hops are resiny with just a little smattering of flavor hops too. It seems to be more of a IPA level of richness and flavor and hoppiness rather than a IIPA.

Wowzers, I finally finally get to try this. It has been on my ‘wants’ list for years. Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a nice clear gold body that supports a light tan head. The mild aroma offers up snippets of spicy hops, a touch of grapefruit and then just a hint of sweet malts. The taste has a nice bitterness that is mostly grapefruit and orange like citrus hops and then to midway and into the finish a sliver of malt sweetened citrus hop flavor comes to the surface to round this out with a touch of balance. This is a pretty darn tasty IPA.

Sample at GABF 10/13/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. This beer is a clear bronze color with a medium thin off-white head and spotty lacing. Aroma of citrus and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of citrusy hops and grainy malt. The finish is short and lightly hopped. Just average overall.
