Yokohama lager, my first beer of the day at the GJBF 2016. It pours a deep gold with a bready aroma complemented by herbal noble hops. Dry finish, bright hops, green, herbal and bready. This is a crisp clean lager that tastes very fresh.

Golden copper color. Malty minerally nose with a bit of bread. I would say this is more of a Vienna. Malty, minerally mouth with some bready notes in the background. Fairly full body for the ABV. Decent for what it is. I rated a couple month ago it wouldn’t rock my world but this version tonight at SH Meats is super clean and well put together. Great stuff.

dark brown color. Yeasty nose with cherries and oranges and kinda funky. The mouth is driven by Belgian yeast and has lots of cherries, apricots and sherry. Malty but pretty damn good. Lingering yeasty finish with bread cake.

On tap at Charcoal Grill Green Bashamichi, Yokohama. Hazy murky orange to amber with a lasting, off-white head. Hoppy aroma with citrus and pine, mild fruity and malty notes and hints of herbs and caramel. Medium to moderate sweet with nice and balanced hoppy flavours and a fair bitterness. Nothing special, but a tasty APA.

Tap at the brewery. Nose of chocolate, pear, coffee, vanilla. Nice balance. Nice flavors of cocoa, mild peat. Soft, light, silky. Nice enough, as usually I don’t dig peated beers, but this was quite restrained and tasty.

Tap at the brewery. Orange-gold, cloudy, with thick lace. Weizen-like nose: cloves, mikan, wheat, some estery banana. Sweet and tart flavors, citrus, banana, clove. Crackers and biscuits. Good use of fruit: not too sweet, and not too obvious. Balanced, dry finish.

Tap at the brewery. Cloudy, glowing gold with a low, fine head. Nose is wheat, cloves, orange, not a weizen, but somewhat similar. Biscuity and bready malt, nice citrus tartness, bitter hopping, crackers. Very malty and grain-focused. Not perfectly German, Belgian or US in style. Good and full.

Tap at the brewery. Amber0orange, cloudy, with a low head. Fruity nose, caramel, apple juice. Nice rich amber malt flavor, dragon fruit in the background, bready. Nice stuff, but somehow this fruit isn’t so interesting in beer.

Tap at Beer Fes Osaka 2015. Pale, cloudy, pastel yellow. Big hoppy nose with the requisite clove and banana as well. Citrus, grapefruit, a bit of cat piss. Tasty, fruity flavor, very hoppy. The hops’ flavor and nose work well, but the bitterness is just a bit overwhelming.
