Description
Wij zijn Brouwerij Zuyd! een jonge, experimentele craftbrouwerij in hartje Maastricht die gelooft in innovatie in de bierwereld.

We are brewery Zuyd, a craft beer brewery from the south of the Netherlands. Maastricht. Since 2016, we have been producing the most challenging beers in town here, in the cellars of the Tapijn Barracks. And all this with one goal: "to show how cool and tasty craft beers from KLimburg can be". Because let's face it ... with that Burgundian character from us, you expect beautiful beers.

In the beginning, the Zuyd beers were not brewed in our own brew kettles. But at our friends at Brouwerij Maximus. In the year 2017, we looked for a location to brew as one of the first breweries beers on Maastricht ground. Finally, after a long search. We found in the cellars of the old canteen of an army barracks named the ‘Tapijn Kazerne’ a perfect place to brew.

In 2019 a new core range was born and the start of a ‘Special range’ the ‘Zuyd Craft series’.

330ml bottle. Clear, chestnut colour with ruby shimmer and huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Nutty and chocolately, dark malty, minimally fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa, nougat, toasted nuts, sweet-ish hazelnut liqueur, whiffs of red berries, strawberry, raspberry, a touch of plum as well. Taste is slightly dry, minimally sweet, nutty dark malty, slightly fruity hoppy and increasingly peppery spicy, notes of milk chocolate and nougat, red berries, black pepper, a touch of plum; peppery finish with and accumulating hot effect, well hidden alcohol. Creamy, viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying and increasingly hot palate, fine and soft carbonation. Nice composition, balanced and harmonious overall, but I can't make sense of the peppery component; the intensity of the accumulating effect runs from initially supportive (good harmony with the fruity aspects) to erasing, especially concerning the nutty, malty partitions. Slightly overspiced therefore - pretty nice and dangerously drinkable brew nevertheless.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey golden colour with average to huge, firm, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Piney and fruity, hoppy aroma, notes of pineapple, mango, apricot, peach. Taste is tart, fruity, slightly piney and fruity hoppy, notes of unripe mango, peach, some pineapple. lemon, lemon juice. Watery texture, minimally astringent palate, foamy, prickly carbonation. Fruity, refreshing, not quite sure if this wanted to be a Sour IPA or if it is by accident - quite nice in any case.

330ml bottle. Murky, redd-ish, dark amber colour with average, frothy, osteoporosing, minimally lacing, white head. Sweet-ish, vinous fruity aroma, notes of red berries, predominantly frozen strawberry, a touch of lingonberry, cranberry, overtones of white grapes, prosecco, dark honey. Taste is dry, vinous fruity, subtle sweetness, subtle tartness, hints of champagne, prosecco, white grapes, strawberry, a touch of cranberry, lingonberry, yeasty spicy overtones, a touch of dark honey; lingering, dry, fruity finish. Minimally mushy, overall watery texture, dry palate, prickly to lively carbonation. Very interesting composition: extremely dry, quite fruity, really a beer-wine-champagne hybrid. Avant-garde brew.

Verschrikkelijk. "A creamy chocolade porter" beloven ze, maar dit is echt verschrikkelijk dun spul met een overdaad aan chilipeper. Spa rood met wat suiker en chilipeper. Slechtste wat ik in jaren op heb. Drainpour.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey golden colour with small to average, firm, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Fruity and minimally herbal, hoppy and doughy yeasty aroma, notes of apricot, mirabelle, brioche, a touch of sage and sorrel. Taste is herbal-spicy and minimallly fruity, slightly bitter hoppy, hints of grass, a touch of sage, white and black pepper, a very cautious touch of apricot. Rather ephemeral fruitiness, herbal-spiciness remains and gains relatively more weight. OK.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Edrinks, Eindhoven. Dutch brewery #343. Hazy dark amber with a white head. Spicy yeasty aroma with some caramel. Bittersweet taste with a estery bitter finish. Quite strange and old-fashioned at the same time but I tend to like it.
