Description
In 1933 Charles Caulier, a miner, left his job and decided to set up as a beer reseller in Bonsecours, a small village in the south of Belgium. In 1980, Roger and Linda Caulier took over the family business and continued progressing.
The warehouses soon became too cramped so they took over the buildings of a former tannery in Péruwelz. The products of the Brewery are still brewed in these buildings today.

In the early 1990s, Roger and Linda decided to market their own beer: a custom-made high fermentation blonde. The Bon Secours was born! These were promising beginnings but they still dreamt of creating their own brewery. A dream which became reality when they bought the machinery from the Deneve brewery in Schepdaal and inaugurated the first brew in 1996!

In 2007, the NV Brasserie Caulier was declared bankrupt. At the beginning of 2008, the activities were transferred to a private limited company of the sons of Roger Caulier, who subsequently adopted the name Brasserie et Distillerie Caulier. As of 2012, Laurent, Bertrand and Vincent joined their parents in the adventure. In order to respond to the growing demand for its products, in 2018 the Brewery began a large multi-annual programme of investments with the goal of tripling its production capacity. The historical Brewing House has been extended, new fermentation and storage tanks have been added, and the bottling line has been modernised.

Hazy amber color, big off-white head. Fruity plum jam and yeast nose with woody hops. Medium-bodied. Bitter, crisp carbonation. Very sweet fruity (candi sugar, more plum jam) for the style, warming alcohol in the finish. Drains to woody aftertaste. Year or so in the cellar would do wonders. Now just "ok" dessert drink.

Dark chocolaty brown, big cloudy beige head. Aroma is fruity (lychee, banana) with some metallic notes. Carbonated, crisp, a bit hoppy and alcoholic. Citric-lemony flavor. Despite of color, quite triple-like. Not too sweet even as candy sugar is added here. (6/4/7/3/13 3.3). Re-rated bottle [BB 12/2008]. 5/4/6/2/10 2.7

Big, pink, coarse-laced head which subsides quickly. Body so hazy it’s almost opaque, dark purple. Strong aroma of blueberry yoghurt and marzipan, maybe also a whiff of hops. Taste is, uh, what? It’s sour and bitter, and very hoppy; this drowns out the blueberries, which you can barely taste. Really bitter, and somewhat hoppy, aftertaste. The combination of hops and blueberries is really unpleasant. Well... Without the hops this might be quite good. As it is I can’t even say I enjoyed it. It’s unusual, but not good.

Hazy red amber ale with a thick off-white head, making spikes. Nice aroma of coriander and honey, with a nice alcohol perfume. Sweet candy sugar with nice caramel, oranges and coriander notes. Medium bodied. Nice alcohol in finish. Bottle at the Gouden Kroon, near Bruges, May 2 2005.

Hazy orangy-yellow (peach-like) color, lots of floating yeast, nice steady and creamy white head, some lace. Sweet apricot and yeast aroma. Medium to full bodied, quite sweet, sugary and fruity. Banana sweetness - yeast - character, a bit DDB-like. Alcohol is well hidden. Too sweet and sugary to be really enjoyable but maybe that’s for the Christmas.

(Bottle 33 cl) Hazy red with a creamy, pinkish head. Distinct berry aroma. Plenty of raspberry notes in the flavour, but dry and lightly tart. No real sweetnes at all, but a very pronounced alcohol feel. Certainly a different fruit beer, but not one I’d care to try again. 231005

An unclear red beer with a pink head. It has a strange artificial raspberry aroma, and the flavor is also very artificially raspberry. Not my cup of tea.

Huge, tan, creamy head, almost as big as the opaque black-brown body from half an 0.33l bottle. Aroma has huge caramelly sweetness with hints of sourness and spice. Initially sweet, round, earthy, almost stale taste gives way to coffee-like roastiness with hints of bitterness, which turns into lingering bitterness and coffee. Mouthfeel is slightly watery. Reminiscent of a moccha coffee. Good, lots of taste, but maybe a little "loose". Could do with more "punch". Also a little too sweet.

Hazy red, pinky. Good big creamy red head. A bit tart rasberry nose, slightly artifical. Dry, slightly sour with taste of rasberries. Same time quite watery - hoppy but lacks decent malt profile.

Draught at Belgian Beer Weekend 2005, Brussels, Belgium
A sparkling, yellow body with a fully lasting, white head. Excellent lace. Moderately bitter initial flavour, lightly bitter finish (averagily long). Soft carbonation. It’s a nice example of it’s style, but not that special concerned in the battle with the beers from all the styles.
