Description
Kleiburg is the beer of the Klei Monastery: a spiritual and hospitable place in the Amsterdam Bijlmer neighbourhood. We are a social enterprise and are inspired by traditional Belgian monastery beers and give it an innovative twist. This results in very own specific beers: always recognizable and at the same time surprising.

33 cl (batch 1, black glass) bottle @ home. Almost black color (not quite opaque). Small beige head with thin layer retention. Aroma is quite herbal/spicy, drop, salmiak, salty, sweet, ginger, cardemom. Retronasal there’s still lots of spices, ginger, cardemom, dark malt, a bit fruity, drop. Flavor is roasty, light sweet, light bitter, a little sourness, spices. Medium to full bodied. Finishes with some chocolate, light ash, light bitter. Interesting, not half bad.

Bottle [as "Eiken Weizen"> @ home. Hazy orange color, medium sized off-white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma and flavor both have a distinct wood and light smoke touch to it. I get wheat, yeast and a fruitpeel-ish sour-bitter a little later. Average body, thin but fizzy carbonation. Meh, don’t like it.

30 cl bottle Batch# batch 4 (6.8%) & 6 (7.3%), next to batch 5 (5.3%). All have the same color, deep amber, mostly clear. Batch 4 (6.8%) was a gusher with clear brett infection so I won’t bother with rating that one, this one is for batch 6 (7.3%). No head. Aroma’s: Fruity, smoky, rubber, light grain. Retronasal it’s malty sweet, smoky, fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet, ashy, light fruity sour and light bitter. Medium bodied. Finish is ashy, slightly dry and light bitter.
