Flavour is Light to moderate sweet and moderate bitter.edium bodied with soft light prickly carbonation. Some alcohol evident. --- Beer merged from original tick of Animal Army Howling Wolf on 02 Oct 2013 at 13:34 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7. Original review text: Draft at The Fiddler. Pours hazy amber brown with a tan head. Aroma of dough, nuts, yeast, light herbs and a little caramel. Flavour is light moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. It’s really a very weird take on a bock beer, but at the same time not too bad. Definite improvement on last year’s recipe.

Cask at the brewpub. Poured a "north sea crude oil" colour. I guess it was cloudy too. I couldn't tell. Thin tan head and the lace was short lived. Roasted malt aroma that developed as the beer got warmer. An interesting taste. There was chocolate, coffee, malt and molasses which probably came from the hint of bitterness that I really wasn't expecting. Black Mamba? More like Black Adder :-) Would I order another as thats the real test? I'm on the fence, but leaning towards the no side. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a cloudy amber with a thin white frothy head. Classic English bitter aroma. It smells like the sticky cellar floor of a city centre boozer! Sadly though the flavour didn't match the aroma and massively disappointed. There simply wasn't enough bitterness in this brew and the palate was almost none existent. Lions Den? I think the Lion is pushing up the daisies! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a murky straw colour with a lingering frothy head. No real aroma and probably needed to be served cooler to disguise the flavour which was not that impressive. It tasted like a beer gone wrong with no real bitterness and little in the way of any kind of flavour. I have never tasted dish water, but I imagine this is what it might taste like! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cask at the Fiddler Den Haag. Poured a cloudy dark mahogany with a thin head and lace that looked like it was glued to the side of the glass. Rather surprisingly there is some hoppy bitterness in the aroma which is what this beer is all about. For a porter, it's surprisingly bitter which was somewhat of a shock with the first mouthful or two, however, I quickly grew used to the flavour and began to appreciate it so much more. I'd order another, so I suppose that's a good recommendation! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
