Description
OWA beer was born in May 2006. It was born and designed for the best Belgium and Japanese fusion food experience. It is indeed a very good combination with SUSHI and YAKITORI (weet soy sauce). The brewery is located in the famous district of Uccle in Brussels, only 2kms from the Moeder Lambic in Saint Gilles. Leo Imai started to brew in December 2008 and in 2009 he made a kitchen laboratory in the brewery, and researched the best marriage with japanese food.

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of yuzy, lemons, straw, and perfume. The flavor is sour with notes of spices, brett, malt, and caramel, leading to a lightly tart finish.

375 ml corked bottle from Etre Gourmet. Amber, moderate hazy body, with a medium, dissipating, frothy, yellowish head. Aroma of wood, cheese, basement, delicate, a bit juicy sweet grapes, apples, some apricot jam. Tastes quite similar, while with more citric acidity. Medium, slick mouthfeel, with a quite lively carbonation. Finishes dry, wooden, medium acidic, cheesy, a bit sweet, a bit vinous, a bit leathery, with grape skin, red apples, Lovely. Really well balanced, with well dosed wooden, funky, fruity and acidic notes. The grapes are clean and a bit unique, sweet but also dry. Characterful and well drinkable. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16

(375ml bottle from Etre Gourmet) Pours clear salmon-tinged peach with a tiny rapidly fizzing head and some active carbonation. Aroma of crushed sweet red grapes and juice, some raisins, fresh leaves, tart gooseberry, wet cellar, wood, some soft funk, but overall sweet grape-y and floral. Flavour is moderately tart and lactic De Troch style with lemon and yoghurt, quite some fresh grape juice and a little raisin, drying wood, fruit candies, minerals, light grassy funk, finish is very soft, dry, lightly tart and a touch sweet from the grapes, with a little woody bitterness. Medium bodied, soft sparkling carbonation. Interesting, quite different from the wine grape lambics of Cantillon, Tilquin and Bokkereyder, this is not winelike. It's very tasty though, the best OWA beer I've had since their early days.

Bottle @Luppolo Station (Rome). Ambrata scarica, appena torbida, schiuma bianca medio-leggera, poco persistente. In bocca è acida media, lunga e persistente, citrica, leggero acetico, astringente. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Una sorpresa!

(750ml 2018 bottle from Etre) Pinkish-orange pour with an average white head after one gets the horribly tough cork out and avoids most of the tan slurry. Aroma is wet farty funk, yoghurt, cheese, soft floral, rosehip, but the adjuncts are kind of subservient to the funk, some wood and dry grass. Flavour is less funky than the nose and substantially yoghurty lactic in quality, with lemon squeeze, wood, dried flowers, rosehips, just a hint of acetic acid, herbs, mid-sour with a drying but still sourish finish. Medium bodied and oily with light carbonation. An odd duck, as I've become accustomed to with recent OWA bottlings. I'd actually like a bit more obvious adjunct here; the feeling now is of a bizarro-world unblended De Troch.
