Bottle shared. Murky sort of dull brownish purple. Looks like plum juice indeed. Aroma is cinnamon, wheat, light yeast, cloves, dried plums, vanilla. Medium sweet and bitter. Very winter style, maybe a bit too out there, but nothing like shitty smoothie beers fortunately.

Bottle. Hazy golden. A ton of bergamot, green tea, wheat, grassy, lemon zest, soft alcohol and sour finish. Still like a very boozy wit, but the bergamot is nice.

Bottle shared by Levi, thanks! Pours a clear gold with an orange hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has earthy grains and light funk with a bit of flora underlying. Flavor has bread and light fruits with straw and a hint of earthy citrus.

hazy pale yellow colour, large white head, which collapses quickly; aroma of grape, pear, peach, some tangerine and grapefruit; taste has similar fruity notes as can be felt in the aroma with some hoppy bitterness; good one

Bottle. Clear golden. Weedy hops, soft caramel, spruce, alcohol, sugary grains. Endive, toffee, cognac. Solid sweet and bitter. A bit boozy finish. OK, but the east coast counterpart was way better.

Bottle. Hazy golden. Lots of tropical fruits, peach, apricot, soft spruce, oats, mango, passion fruit. Medium sweet and bitter. Solid medium bodied, light alcohol and hop burn but not unpleasant at all. Very nice, one of my favourite new Bendorf brews in years.

Superstrong interpretation of an English style barleywine by a craft brewery in Strassbourg; bottle from Geers, with stylish artwork on the front label. Snow white, thin and loose, open ring for a head on a lightly hazed, warm orange blonde beer with pale-amberish glow. Aroma of candied peach, cognac, vanilla-scenting oak wood, Grand Marnier, biscuit, yellow raisins, dried fig, whisky. Candied sweet onset, candied apricot, yellow raisins and orange zest, medium carb, full and oily, eventually bit vinous mouthfeel – as full as expected at this strength, but still remaining remarkably supple and ‘drinkable’. Slick caramelly, honeyish and biscuity malt sweet core with almondy side note, ending with more candied fruit and vanilla-like woodiness, heated by peppery, Grand Marnier- and Armagnac-like alcohol, aided by a peppery hop bitter touch. Beautiful beer: utterly focused on its own concept, soft and vinous, whilst at the same time rich, powerful and full of colour, with no off-flavours, overly harsh booziness, solvent effects or other ‘beauty flaws’ one often sees in barleywines (especially the very strong ones); for weeks in a row, I encounter one French masterpiece after another, so allow me to repeat that this country nowadays needs a lot more attention from craft beer lovers. This perfectly executed barleywine and other very high level beers are the living proof.
