Gravity cask at the Birmingham CAMRA Beer Festival 2015. Poured a clear light amber with little life. The aroma is rotten eggs... honestly. The flavour is light bitter with a light hop, light citrus palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation.

Gravity cask at the Walsall Camra, beer festival 2015. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is light hop, light creamy malt. The flavour is moderate bitter with a smooth malt, woody hop bitter palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. A decent session bitter and a real blast from the past!

On tap somewhere in London! Clear amber beer. Semi dry palate. Nice even malt supports fruity hops with no real bitterness. Mango, orange, peach and more generic fruits. Juicy and tasty. Semi dry finish. Decent.

Spoons Fest. Clear gold beer. Light palate with zero carbonation! Mmmmmm! Light malt base with zesty citrus - orange and a hint of lime. Finishes semi dry. What a shame this beer has no condition!

My brown 500ml bottle has a best before date of May 2009, it is being consummed mid Feb 2009 (now). Poured into a UK pint sleeve glass. It looks fine and is the copper colour claimed on the label, there is a hint of a haze and the white foaming head sets it off very nicely. Very English hop, malts and yeast aroma, maybe on the sweet side as the malts assert themselves in the glass. Oh dear, they forgot to put any taste in the brew. Where has the 4% ABV gone, where have the ingrediants that gave me the aroma disappeared too? I am drinking a fizzy, watery, slightly malty glass of dishwater. No body and a sad, sad beer indeed. First impressions can obviuosly be wrong, looks and smells OK, pity about everything else. I’ve still got two thirds of the pint left, I’m off to find some cheese to help me finish the beer off, can’t drink it on its own!

June 2010: A lovely sunny Saturday afternoon drinking session started with this beer, poured into a ’Corsendonk’ badged stemmed tulip and a vase shaped ’Watzdorfer’ badged Pilsner glass. Having spent two weeks in the US recently and drinking overly hopped IPA’s, this came as a wonderful suprise, it is about 100% better than anything I had in the US, stuff those Arogant Bastards at Stone, those Hopped Stoopid guys at Lagunitas, I wouldn’t give Rogue anytime let alone 60 or 90 minutes. This beer is just miles ahead in flavour, why are you people in the US so aggressive with your hops? No need at all. The aroma from this wonderful beer, like the taste was a hop orientated true IPA. The colour was almost lager pale gold, but not quiet. Pale, Lager and Crystal malts are used. These are supplimented with torrefied wheat, Progress, Mount Head and Styrion Golding hops. Before anyone else in the US tries to make an IPA, Double/triple/quad/etc, etc, IPA they should have this beer first. The amazing thing about this beer is: it is a supermaket cheapo.

Classed as a Premium Ale by the brewery this 500ml brown bottle was reviewed on 6th Aug 2010, the best before date was Sept 2010. It was poured into a vase shaped pint glass (badged ’Old Speckled Hen’). The body was a lovely clear dark amber/ mid brown colour, the head creamy in colour and texture when licked. The aromas were of malts, lightly roasted/toasted and set aside for a while to mature. The beer gave off a caramel hue, not overly sweet, but getting that way. The taste was mostly malts, a hop bitterness was hidden away and almost arrived in the aftertaste, but malts dominated the intitial flavour finds and took over again later. Semi-sweet molasses come to mind in explaining the body and true flavours and it is certainly on the sweet side of the rails. One of the ingrediants is listed as ’No3 Invert Black Sugar’, the Fuggles and Mount Hood hops can’t quiet cope with the ammount of sugar used! I do have a sweet tooth and this beer was most enjoyable, could I have five in a row? No, but one or two would be fine.

21st Aug 2010: Brown 500ml bottle, just past its best before date (lot 3305, best before Aug 2010). Poured into my ’La Chouffe’ tulip glass, three times: Pale amber colour, clean and bright, large off-white head sat on top of all three pours. Although the beer has Fuggles, Progress, Challenger and Cascade hops with Syrian added late you’d never have guessed by the smell, very little hop aromas came out of the glass. The hops do appear in the taste though along with Pale, Cystal and Amber Malts, which blend nicely with Malted Wheat to make a well balanced easy drinking English Bitter. No world beater, but a pleasant bottled bitter.
