About
Both Kiwi Scott and Aussie Cam learnt how to make full flavoured beers as home brewers and then studied how to make these beers consistently at Versuchs und Lehranstalt fur Braurei (VLB) Berlin. Lured to Ireland by two Irish cailins and in search of good beer, they came up with an idea: let’s brew it ourselves!
In 2010 they established Eight Degrees Brewing at the foot of the Galtee Mountains and, after much work, stainless steel and (never ending!) research launched their first beer on an unexpecting world at the 2011 EasterFest.

440ml can at home. Pours a deep brown to black, thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Nose is dark fruit, molasses, brown sugar, slight bit of floral hops. Flavour is weighted heavily towards the porter/stout side of this Black IPA...roasted beans, molasses, smoke, dark fruit, a little bit of hop resin. Long bitter finish.

Draught. Mild fruity aroma. Hazy golden colour. Frothy white head. The flavour is grapefruity with a hint of burnt plastic. Good maltiness. Clean bitterness. Refreshing.

330ml bottle, via Beer52; BB 19th Apr 2021. Last beer of the day at home on 31st May 2020. Black body, tanned topping. Aroma was malty with traces of both coffee and chocolate esters. The taste also malty and again with both coffee and chocolate to the fore. Didn't really excite my senses but it didn't upset me either!

440ml can at home. Deep gold to amber, medium off white. Nose is big grapefruit hops, maybe a small bit of pine resin, some red fruit. Taste is all hoppy grapefruit and a mix of red fruit maybe strawberry. Mouthfeel is smooth and rounded.

[33cl bottle from Beer52.] A dark cola brown pour with a thin cream head; aroma of oats and chocolate; velvety smooth with an immediate sharp bitterness from deeply roasted grains before a chocolatey body emerges; then a dry grainy finish with some sweetness. An excellent stout.

24/4/2020. Sample courtesy of the SHIG, cheers! Pours clear bright gold with a bubbly white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, hops, malt and grass. A bit perfumed too. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, average carbonation. But more bitterness to finish. It’s ok.
