330ml bottle into shaker. Nose is mild whiffs of rice pudding. Cloudy orange/bronze beer with dense but thin head. Heavy carbonation. Full-bodied, sweet grainy taste. Finish is sweet and sour with caramel. Excellent, interesting, hard to classify! This beer definitely has Sake cousins.

Bottle from World Beer Market, served in a pint glass. Kujukuri Ocean IPA made with simcoe & nelson sauvin, 5% makes it more of an APA than an IPA in my opinion but it’s got a nice hop bouquet with a substantial malt biscuit aroma. The taste on this is a kind of harsh bitterness that is floral, ash, mouth puckering chalky bitterness. Meh, ok enough but not balanced more English in style than US. I think this bottle is off...

Tap at Yokohama Fes. Orange color, clear. Estery fruit nose, oranges, peaches. Quite bitter and estery flavor, oily. Light pale ale basically. Not bad.

Golden color. Frothy white head. Slightly sour nose with lots of cereal notes. Hop character is pretty weak. The mouth shows some fruitness but lacks the malt backbone and balance I want. Mildly bitter finish. Certainly not bad but hardly something I will seek out again.

Kujukuri Ocean Weizen Bottle direct from the brewery. 5% Served in my weizen glass. Bottle February 2nd so a bit more than a month old. Not a nice looking weizen, it is a clear yellow with a thin fizzy head. A yeasty clove and a bit bready wheat aroma - ok. Medium bodied but with a watery flavor, biscuit/crackery from the malts with very little weizen like character. As a beer it is ok, as a weizen it fails to impress.

Kujukuri Ocean Stout, 7% served in a snifter. It pours a reddish brown that is inky black with ruby highlights & a tan head in the glass. Creamy chocolate aroma with light roasted notes. Fairly full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. The taste is sweet milk chocolate, roasty notes that nod towards coffee beans & perhaps a hint of a lactic acidity. I’d say this is a milk or cream stout & a pretty good one - much better than that weizen. Interestingly, paired with chocolate I got big cherry notes.

Bottle direct from the brewery. Clear copper pour with a thin filmy head. A fairly malty sweey nose with lots of graininess & minimal hops. The taste is pretty good fairly biscuity malt cookie like body, exceptionally mild citrus hops. Tasty but more like an English Pale Ale but way less cloyingly sweet. Midway between a Briitish & American Pale Ale. More malt forward than your typical APA but not as hoppy. Not as sweet as an English Pale Ale either, uniquely it’s own. I like it. I can see the weizen comparisons... then again I like weizens,,,

Bottle mail ordered direct from the brewery. A darker gold than the Akagi pilsner with a foamy rather than fizzy head that was longer lasting but also left no lacing behind. Much sweeter aroma, sugary grainy aroma with some biscuity or bready qualities plus some light estery aromas. Medium-full bodied with a slick mouthfeel. It is tasty but not all that pils like, fruity, estery, sugary graininess & a lingering sweet finish. A decent tasting beer but other than it’s appearance it isn’t terribly pils like. Seriously the nose is somewhat weizen like. Night & day with the classic pilsner from Akagi Kronenberg. Next up the Kai Pilsner.

330 ml bottle from Precce @ Naka-Meguro. Pours copper, almost completely without head. Aroma is tart, this should not be lambic, so has this beer gone off? Taste is sour, some bitterness at the end. This beer was brewed about 2 months ago but it is already spoilt. It says on the label that it has to be kept under 5 degrees Celsius - and I am sure that although cooled, it was much warmer on that shelf I took it from. Not sure if I want to try this brewery’s beers again if they spoil so easily.
