Description
Well guys, we just make beer. That’s it.

The public space at Brassneck, i.e. the Growler Shop & Tasting Room are designed to have you, our customers feel as though you are part of our process. The brew house & cellar wrap around the tasting room & growler shop putting you in the very heart of the Brewery.

We have a special type of liquor license. A Brewery Lounge. Patrons do not have to be seated as in many other Food Primary locations in Vancouver. This combined with our communal tables makes for a pleasant social environment.

We have a really tiny 10 Hec system, with an even smaller Nano system for batches of around 4 Hecs.

Even though our system is small, we have lots of different fermenters. 14 in total (including a beautiful oak fermenter called a Foudre). This allows us to brew lots of different beers on a constantly rotating basis.

We are ALWAYS experimenting with different beer styles. We are three & a half years old & we’ve already brewed about 120 different beers. From Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts to Corn Lagers, Sour beers to English Milds, Brett Primary Fermented Wheat Ales to Traditional Saisons, the scope of beer styles is endless & we intend to cover them all!

Our beer comes to you direct from the conditioning tanks in our cellar & sells out quickly, so it’s always fresh.

Conrad Gmoser is our Head Brewer & partner, aided by Jeff Leake & Scott Wannop.

We’re always evolving so get ready for more great beers as time goes by & we expand production & have greater capacity for experimentation.

473mL growler, pours a clear copper amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma brings out loads of English malts, English hops, and biscuity notes - smells like an English bitter. Flavour is just the same, with a wonderful balance of hops and malt, both of the English varieties. Very creamy mouthfeel, with a wonderful lingering finish of all the English ingredients. Highly drinkable - could drinks litres of this. Excellent.

On tap at the Alibi Room for the 500th beer list celebration, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out whiskey notes, sweet malt, and cocoa. Flavour is big n bold, with lots of sweet malt, light whiskey barrels, cocoa, and lager yeast. Drinks way too easily, with not much ABV showing, nor the barrels. Great stuff.

Hazy blond color. The hoppy aroma has a lemon tea character. The mouthfeel is lean and quite dry, possibly the fermentation has worked a bit too much because there is also some chemical byproduct; delicate malt flavor with a hint of hay; strong bitterness with plenty of hop oils and some orangey fruitiness.
It’s not heavy like other DIPAs, but I don’t think I could drink much of it; in its own way it’s a bit cloying.

Dark color, near black. Light aroma of burnt paper and wet cereals. The mouthfeel is weak and dry; roasted malt flavor, ashes, some chocolate; correct bitterness; the final is a bit ashy.
Monodimensional. Too weak to be interesting; there are other styles that fit better at this gravity, this one doesn’t awake my interest.

Hazy amber color with small compact head. Smell of paper, refined white sugar, puke; oh yes, I had those smells in a few real English Bitters too, but they were not the best ones. Dry and smooth mouthfeel, well carbonated; the malts are subdued, there is some caramel, the yeast seems to be present but it doesn’t have enough character, and there is a paper feeling; it’s not a complete shipwreck, there is also a gentle fruitiness; the bitterness seems too strong also because it comes with a vegetable/chicory character.
Traditional styles are the most difficult to nail, and this Bitter still is looking for improvements.

Murky blond color with small creamy head. Aroma of yeast, spices, light banana, some smell of stale water. Wheat and spices flavor, strong, with underlying fruitiness, banana, but disturbed by too much bitterness, resulting in a harsh final.
Confused; they don’t seem to have nailed the Wheat beers yet.

Hazy mahogany-red color with small compact head. Nice aroma of pot coffee, breakfast, caramelized sugars, with a kind of coffee fruitiness. Smooth body; the malts are dark but not burnt, and the light sweetness is a good balancing factor; delicate coffee presence, and pleasant mild fruitiness; correct bitterness.
Quite unique, interesting because of the light sweetness and fruitiness that grabs this beer out of the bunch of otherwise boring ones. Good one.

Black color with small creamy beige head. Very nice aroma of freshly brewed coffee pot, with evident citrusy hops. The mouthfeel is weak and very dry; flavor of burnt malts, a lot of ashes and a hint of coffee; strong resiny bitterness.
Monodimensional.

Black color with creamy head. Nice aroma, both the coffeish malts and the resiny hops are well present. The mouthfeel is expectedly light and dry, but also quite smooth; very strong roasted malt and burnt coffee flavor (this is beyond my liking), strong bitterness and hidden hop resins.
This usage of burnt malts may appeal to few, but creates a monodimensional beer.
