Black Isle was started by David Gladwin in 1998. An unemployed beer lover, he set out to make world-class beer using barley and hops, grown on organic farms, without the use of destructive chemicals. Black Isle Brewing Co is Scotland’s only organic brewery; pioneering craft beer from our beautiful, wild - and sometimes wet - Highland home. Organic is at the heart of everything we do - we believe in making great tasting beer using only natural ingredients, grown without the use of harmful chemicals. [i] [b] Bottle, many thanks to Craig cgarvie for this one, cheers Craig. [/i] [/b] Poured black with a small white bubbly head. Some sourness and suphurous notes and even some metallic thing going on there, wondering whether this was infected as it was just well, sour really, also appley fairly sure this was a bad un as a porter that tastes more like cider can’t be right can it? I will rate this again if ever I see it and note this rating certainly isn’t a dig at the brewery.

[i] [b] Bottle from Craig, cheers mate!, had this 01-02-08 [/i] [/b] Poured dark reddy brown very murky and a real erupter to the extent that I probably lost half of it over the work surface. Quite a fruity nose even a touch of sourness quite dry to taste bit sour again very fruity but this felt quite rough to me and afraid to say not my thing at all.

[i] [b] Bottle from Craig, cheers mate!, had this the night before we set off for Munich 23-01-08 [/i] [/b] Wonderful aroma was the first thing I noted, the beer poured a hazy golden but once again the honey and yes a floralness no doubt from the heather. tasted quite strange but there was no doubting the honey attributes, refreshing and sweet I like this but I’m not sure exactly why, the aroma is definately my favourite part of this.

Bottle (purchased at the brewery): Golden , big fluffy lasting head, strong lemony hoppy aromas with a touch of lemon peel and a tinge of vanilla; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, very light bodied; moderate aromatic bitter finish. A light, but a very aromatic brew...........

Clean amber color. Nice aroma of hops, quite English styled; there are some fruits. Dry mouthfeel, dry caramel and toffee flavor, but there is also an interesting touch of orange cookies. Correct bitterness. Good thirst quencher. It’s a complete different brew from years ago.

Cloudy orange-amber color. As promised, the aroma is very Belgian. Medium body, some malt flavor, good bitterness level, big yeast footprint, a bit fruity and astringent; not bad, but a bit too much homebrew style.

(Bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, orangey brown with a creamy, beige head leaving a handsome lacework. Sweetish, burned malt accents in the aroma. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel and a somewhat low carbonation. Dry, dark and burned malt accents with a distinct malt bitterness. 171107

Bottled. A murky orange-brown beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and yeast. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel, leading to a slightly bitter finish. The body is thin.
