Description
Black Isle was started by David Gladwin in 1998. An unemployed beer lover, he set out to make world-class beer using barley and hops, grown on organic farms, without the use of destructive chemicals. Black Isle Brewing Co is Scotland’s only organic brewery; pioneering craft beer from our beautiful, wild - and sometimes wet - Highland home. Organic is at the heart of everything we do - we believe in making great tasting beer using only natural ingredients, grown without the use of harmful chemicals. We care about seriously good beer, the environment and the future of our planet.

Can from Kernel's web shoppe. It pours clear chestnut brown bread. The aroma is bitter - sweet, woody, brown bread, earth, ryvita, dried and dark fruits, sticky plum, fig rolls, raisin, light spice and toasted fruit cake. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, touch of tannin, brown bread, digestive biscuit, ryvita, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, prune, fig, touch of spice and dull toffee with a short, kinda soft finish. Average body and soft carbonation. Has some nice nuances to it. Grew on me.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from the Kernel taproom. Pours clear copper, lightly effervescent, with a small, creamy tan head. Light sweet flavour with notes of toasted malts, light berry notes, a nip of caramel, bread. Light bodied with average carbonation. Balanced finish, more lightly toasted bready malts, soft fruity notes, a little grape, berry, mild leafy bitterness. Quite drinkable.

Black beer, thin tan head. Smells of roasted malt. Flavour follows suit, with malt that's sweet and toasty. Bready with some hops through that too to balance it out. Masks yh4 strength very well and it's super drinkable.

Hazy golden, thin white head. Fruity, slightly bready aroma. Flavour has citrus, a little banana, a dash of spice, some yeast. Very solid effort at a Belgian style.
