Pint on tap at Basement Brewhouse, Bankstown. Red/brown beer with a thin white head. Sweet malt nose. Good body, nice lacing. Mildly effervescent with a smoky malt taste and a watery burnt caramel finish. Easy to drink but fairly simple.

330ml bottle. Pours brown black. Chocolate, coffee, cream, vanilla, hazelnut, rosewater, caramel popcorn (in a good way). Medium body. Fun.

From a 330ml bottle on 20/12/2017. Not sure of the appropriate category for this. Described as a white stout, so will stick with stout. Pours a clearish medium golden with a small head. The aroma features some coffee, fermenting fruit and sweaty socks. In the mouth, the quite a pronounced coffee flavour, some citrus fruit, white wine, nutmeg and the barest hint of smoke. Not overly sweet and finishes with a relatively sharp, zesty bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. I love Hopdog's spirit of adventure, which inevitably leads to some moments of crash and burn. This is crash and burn. Just an odd, odd beer that doesn't come off on any level.

19/XII/17 - 33cl bottle from a trade, shared @ home - BB: n/a (2017-2221) Thanks to Paul for the trade!

Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige to brown head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of chocolate, alcohol, bourbon touch, very roasted, caramel, molasses, bit malty, very dark and intense, love it already, even before drinking. MF: ok carbon, full body, creamy texture. Taste: pretty sweet start, very roasted, bitter touch, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, alcohol, bit sugary. Aftertaste: coffee, quite a bit of it actually, charcoal, alcohol, molasses, dark chocolate, burnt caramel, bitter touch, some mocha. Nice cross-over between a stout and a barley wine I suppose, has aged beautifully!

From a 330ml bottle on 30/9/2017. Another Super Beast hits us and my level of anticipation is high. Pours a murky medium to dark amber with a biggish head. The nose is quite powerful - oodles and both malt and ripe tropical and stone fruit, with toffee and jam in the mix. Like every previous version of the SB I've had, this has a forceful personality. Very sweet and syrupy upfront - again ripe fruit, mandarin, peach, apricot, mango, plum, caramel, brown sugar, a touch of toffee, and some yeast. The hops are pronounced, delivering a sharpish, slightly boozy bitterness that meets the sweetness nicely. The palate is slick and syrupy, and the carbonation average to lively. A really impressive big sipper - bold, intense and quite complex. Much prefer it to the 2016 SB, but it's not quite as good as the best previous versions.

From a 330ml bottle on 14/9/2017. Pours a hazy golden with a big fluffy white head. The aroma features some bready malt, sweet fruit, and a touch of yeast. As per the blurb, there's good dose of pineapple and mango, along with some peach, against a background of bread and biscuit. The bitterness is pretty firm, dry and a touch spicy. Medium to full bodied. It's really rather pleasant, spoilt only by being a bit over-carbed.

From a 330ml bottle on 24/8/2017. Pours a clear amber with a small head. Has a light smoked meat flavour. In the mouth there’s caramel, toast, bacon and light smoke, with a mild hop bitterness finishing things off. Medium bodied with average carbonation. This is nice stuff and probably a bit more subtle than the average smoked beer, but it comes together very nicely.

From a 330ml bottle on 9/7/2017. Pours a deep brown with a small head. The nose features roasty, chocolate and fruity notes, with a fair bit of Belgian yeast.In the mix. Taste wise, it’s a bit of a sweetie with milk chocolate and curiously strawberry (perhaps the rose water?) presenting most prominently, which is followed by a moderate, slightly roasty bitterness and a bit more Belgian yeast. Perhaps there is just a hint of popcorn and fairy floss in there, but it’s not too pronounced. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Perhaps not quite as crazy as the name suggests, but pretty tasty stout none the less.

Half pint on tap at Basement Brewhouse, Bankstown. Black beer with tan-coloured head. Nose has coffee, cocoa, chocolate, and rice. Flat mouthfeel. Taste of cocoa, some sweet liquorice. Roasty notes at the end...
....and......ultimately a touch of rosewater. Not really my thing.

Bottle. Crept out of the bottle. Pours clear deep amber with a huge light beige head. Aroma of toffee, dried fruit, fruit cake spices, orange and lemon peel. 7+ Full bodied, way over carbonated. Sweet with a big bitter citrus kick at the end. Lots of dried and semi dried fruit, some of it almost as though it’s fermenting. Really needs the bitterness at the end. Boozy, more so than 10.5% would suggest. Interesting but not convincing.
