The Cider Barn, Colebatch, Bishop's Castle, SY9 5LW, England
Description
Our aim is to produce the very best still craft cider.
Unlike large commercial brands, Long Mynd Cider only uses cider apples. The cider apples are milled, pressed then over winter they ferment with their own wild yeasts converting the sugar to alcohol. This takes up to six months. There’s never any rush.
After fermentation our cider is conditioned in Scotch whisky barrels before going into the dispensing tanks.
We use our own apples and at least three other local varieties to create a unique flavour and taste.
We think our French Sambron press is the only one in the UK. Made in 1958, it was towed between farms and the owner was paid in juice.

Sample courtesy of minutemat, cheers Mat! Deep golden colour, bubbly white foam head that quickly dissipates away and aroma of ripe apple, fruity, barrel hint. Taste is sweet, apple, ripe fruit, with a caramel note, some whisky barrel hints, vanilla, orangey citric and light tannins. Medium bodied, low carbonation, medium dry slightly tannic finish. Nicely drinkable.

75cl bottle from Ludlow Farm Shop. Pours darker than their other standard sparkling cider, with less vanillery whisky notes so I sense other barrels were used. Mild caramelised fruit warmth, moderately sparkling, subtle tannin. Decent overall, no spicy 'festive' elements.

75cl bottle. Clear golden yellow appearance. Oaky vanilla hints to the aroma. Lovely smokey woody whisky suggestions as per the box I trued 2 years ago, some vanilla oak, natural fruit, lovely carbonation. Very good. Great to see cider being made locally in the Shropshire Hills.

22/4/2021. Bottle sample courtesy of minutemat, cheers! Pours clear golden with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is woody, peaty, rich apple, caramel. Medium sweetness and light tartness, with lots of peat to taste. Medium body, average carbonation. Peat is dominant and I’m not a peat fan so this one didn’t do much for me.
