Description
Kiuchi Brewery (木内酒造) is a brewery in Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 1823 by village headman Kiuchi Gihei as a sake and shochu producer.
Craft beer production began in 1996 after a change in Japanese law governing micro brewing. A number of Kiuchi's products seek to combine European beer-making technology with traditional Japanese brewing techniques; for example, its XH Hitachino Nest Beer is matured in shochu casks.

Great cloudy orange appearance. The head was very big but also very thin and was gone quickly. Aromas of malt and sour citrus. Also some herbal character. Sweet, with a lingering sweet aftertaste. Crisp on the palate.

Botted. Hazy golden. Acidic rice and toffee nose. Malty with notes of cookies and nuts. Oily finish. Unusual, complex and interesting.

No head whatsoever. very mild hops on the nose, with some faint orange, hazy amber, nice rounded body with a chalky end, hops are more present at the beginning but dissipate quickly to reveal the malt. Some sweet malt near the end.

Ah, my first Japenese Belgian. This is probably the best Japanese beer I have sampled so far. Pours a murky light orange with a thin white head. Quick lacing, and some sediment at the bottom of the glass. Strong citrus aroma (all orange), with a pinch of spice as well. Crisp and refreshing with a decent balance of orange, ginger, yeast and peaches. Also has a fairly crisp finish. Pricey at over $3 for a 12oz. bottle but a good summer brew.

Is this soy sauce? Aroma dominated by soy and coffee. I can't help but expect a crazy "Kikkoman" commmerical to appear on my monitor. The flavor is very sweet, almost sour, with very little roasted backbone I've come to expect from beers of this style. Not exactly "stout" enough for my preferences; this could use a stronger, thicker body.

Hazy light amber; great nutty aroma (i guess that's the red rice) with evaporated milk and soap nuances, neither of which is unpleasant in the slightest. Hint of phenols detected. Unique nutty, slightly fruity (lemon, longan, rambutan) palate with almond skin notes appearing late. Light, appetizing finish. 8.5%?? Are you sure? Wins points for uniqueness.

Fizzy, diminishing head atop dark red-brown body. Vinous aroma of toffee, soy sauce; unfermented wort on the palate, sweet sugariness, definite acidic bite. Watery texture, quick finish.

I’m deleting my old rating, in which I proclaimed it disgusting, with its overly strong musty orange flavors that reminded my Floridian friend of eating over-ripe nearly spoiled oranges off the tree. While that unpleasant reaction may have been due to the surprise of this unusual beer and perhaps my palate not being ready, a second more controlled rating revealed this to be far less disgusting than previously thought. That’s not to say I think its particularly great, only finishable compared to drainpour. The orange flavors are still quite strikingly and borderline unpleasantly strong. There’s an interesting spicy component that I can’t quite pin, but it seems more like hops than coriander to me. Palate is soft, appearance nearly correct for witbier, slightly more golden than some.

Amber coloured, very hazy. Lively, estery. Big banan flavour. mellow and drinkable. They could have fooled me into believing I was drinking a Bavarian hefeweizen.
