Poured from 375mL bottle (thanks beerplace). Near black with small tan head. Vanilla, lactose, cocoa, super subtle coconut (almost undetectable). Vanilla and chocolate standout, but lacks cohesion, not a fan of the vanilla quality here. Just okay.

375mL bottle, pours jet black with a tiny tan head. Aroma brings out lots of vanilla, followed by lactose, coconut and a touch of metallic notes. Flavour is very rich and pastrified, with tons of vanilla upfront, followed by coconut and plenty of lactose. Very rich, oily and silky, but not the most elegant or complex. The vanilla is a bit harsh and not all that impressive. Fun over-the-top pastry stout but far from excellent.

(473ml can from masoif.com) Pours very cloudy dark gold with a thick white and and some lace. Aroma of peach, dank and almost funky pineapple, mango, guava-type florals, bitter orange, some green onion/garlic, slight peanut powder vibe. Flavour is mid-sweet up front, peach, dank pineapple, barely-sweet orange juice, lightly bitter orange peel becoming quite concentrated later in the sip, slightly bready malt, some very soft guava-like florals, finish is fairly dry and very orange-forward, a little peach, very slightly peppery but the oniony quality of the nose is absent or aged out of the flavour and the bitterness is rather low overall. Medium-bodied with average carbonation and an oily texture, light alcohol warmth. Vic Secret edginess to it but nicely balanced big DIPA.

750ml (thx, Charles S.!) @ Ryan's. Appearance: pours like motor oil, dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma: pretty nice heavy charred barrel, sweet. Taste: along the same lines, a bit the meaty notes (not much thankfully), burnt sugars, molasses. Overall: very heavy, could be a great expression of what BBA beers could be if you add more balance here.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Near black with virtually no beige head. Thick and rich, bourbon, chocolate. Enjoy more than the coconut version, but shouldn't be in such a big bottle, 375mL would be more than enough to share.

750mL bottle, pours a dense motor oil black with almost no head. Aroma is fairly muffled and harsh, with intense burnt sugars and muffled bourbon barrels. Flavour is better than the coconut version, with lots of burnt sugars, subdued bourbon, alcohol, and molasses. It's not got amazing complexity for the style, but the integration is good. Extremely viscous and rich, but not terribly elegant or refined. Good, but Messorem stouts continue to be overrated, overhyped, overpriced, and packaged in way too large quantities.

750ml (thx, Charles S.!) @ Matt's new place. Appearance: pale copper with a white head. Aroma: gin and fermented raspberries. Taste: along the same lines - gin and fermented-out berries. Overall: weird, but ok.

750mL bottle, pours a clear pale ros colour with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out gentle, tart raspberry, gin barrels, and gentle buggy, rustic saison yeast. Flavour is bizarre, with tons of gin barrels, very very light raspberries, seltzery notes, and a touch of rustic notes. This is very strange. Not harsh, but there's also nothing all that pleasant about it. Drinkable but why drink it?
